Minecraft Player's 35-hour Gaming Marathon

Minecraft player's 35-hour gaming marathon By Zoe Kleinman Technology reporter, BBC News

12 October 2015

A British man is hoping he can beat the record for Minecraft's longest-running game.

Joe Kelly from Cheltenham played the game for 35 hours 35 minutes and 35 seconds, raising PS1,800 to support cancer research.

The current record, 24 hours 10 minutes was set by Martin Fornleitner in Austria in 2011.

Minecraft involves building structures from blocks, exploring the world and fighting in battles.

The title has sold more than 54 million copies worldwide.

Microsoft bought Mojang the company behind it, for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) last year.

Mr Kelly who owns a film company and is a voice actor has played the game since it was released in the year 2010. He usually plays for only a few hours per week.

He stated to BBC that he could stay awake and alert without caffeine, and it wasn't too hard.

"There were no stimulants except for sugar and stubbornness."

Kelly who streamed the entire event live on YouTube, said that the stunt took its toll.

"My shoulders didn't ache, my back didn't ache The most painful thing was my fingers.

"They suffer so much by holding a mouse and keyboard and clenching them for such a long time.

"Every small break I took, I was flexing the fingers."

Mr Kelly and his girlfriend, Sarah Vallance, are currently working on sending evidence of the feat to Guinness World Records.

But he has no intention to take a break from the game.

"I introduced my girlfriend to Minecraft, we usually play together," he said.

" It's something we like to do together. I don't mind gaming."
