What is the Abyss in the Hero's Journey?
The Hero's Journey is a series of steps taken by an exceptional hero as they strive to accomplish something no one else can. They must overcome challenges, brave dangers and sometimes die in order to reach their ultimate destiny or save the world from destruction.

The hero's journey is not a linear one, but rather an upward spiral. Rather than ending on the same level as they began, heroes ascend to higher planes in their journey and return home with wisdom and skill from their trials.

Stage 1: Departure (Leaving the Ordinary World)
The initial step in any hero's journey is taking action towards their quest. This could be as straightforward as accepting an invitation from a mentor figure or as dramatic as leaving everyday life behind and embarking on an extraordinary journey.

Although this can be a risk, the hero may decide it's worth the risk to make changes and see what lies ahead. This could involve physical danger, moral dilemma, or even mental or emotional struggle.

After leaving the mundane world, heroes enter an intense initiation phase where they must confront trials and tests with help from allies. Here, leadership learn new abilities, sharpen existing ones and conquer even their toughest obstacles.

Once the initiation is over, the hero will possess a deeper awareness of themselves and their place in the world. Additionally, they will have acquired greater purpose, courage, and strength.

Stage 2: The Ordeal (Challenge or Test)
The Ordeal is the most challenging phase of any hero's journey and may present physical obstacles, moral tests, or psychological struggles. Here they must confront their own weaknesses or fight off an enemy with full strength.

When the hero confronts this difficult trial, they must confront their fears and accept their weaknesses. This major turning point will have lasting repercussions for how well they handle future obstacles.

Stage 3: The Challenges and Temptations of the Adventure
Once out of his comfort zone, the hero is faced with a variety of difficult situations and people who attempt to stop him. These could include enemies, villains, or roadblocks in his path that stand in his way.

These obstacles could range from a challenging task to the unwillingness of friends and family to lend support. The hero's courage is tested at every turn, leaving them to rely on their own willpower in order to fulfill their mission.

Stage 4: Reuniting with the Goddess and Overcoming Challenges
At this point, the hero is reunited with his allies, including a mentor or guide who can offer guidance and insight into the situation. This could be someone who has already made similar steps or someone more experienced than the hero himself.
