Priest Costumes in the Roman Catholic Church
In many jurisdictions, priests and deacons are required to wear special garments that differentiate them from the laymen. The reason for this is not to show superiority over the laymen but as a way of expressing both their dignity as clerical and their vocation.

The cassock can be worn as an ordinary garment or under liturgical robes by Roman Catholic clergy. The cassock has been designed to be fitted closely to the body. It can be made from cotton or silk. In the Roman Catholic Church the colour and trimming varies depending on the rank of the clergy. The pope is dressed in plain white while cardinals are black with a red trim.

Skufias are the lower robes worn by priests underneath the cassock. They can be embroidered, or they can not. The skufia may be made from silk or linen fabric. It's worn for ordinations or communions as well as a few special ceremonies.

If the skufia has not been worn, a priest wears a collared shirt. The collars of the shirts may be full or tabbed. priestcostume can wear a stole, a chasuble or the skufia instead if they do not want to wear it.

Many clerics will also wear a long, hooded, cloak that covers the neck and head. It can be worn over the shoulder or over the robe. It can be used as a scapular for religious rituals but is not a part of the canonical costumes.

Clerics also wear sleeveless tops. This is called a sacerdotal shirt and it is worn for certain services and occasions, like the Easter Vigil.

As do all of us, priests have a nature that is prone to sin. The world is weak and tempting to them. They need to be able defend themselves against temptations. They must have the ability to defend what they believe is right, and good even when it does not make them popular.

They must be able withstand temptations such as pride, selfishness or other similar evils. It is also important that they can show other people that they follow Jesus Christ and are faithful to the Church.

A priest's clothing should be a symbol of his devotion to the Church. The clothing worn by a priest should represent his sacred office, and serve as a reminder to him that he has a duty to uphold and respect the laws and tradition of the church. It is also a sign that he is dedicated to serving the people.

The clothing worn by clerics is crucial to their protection from unwanted attention and the temptation of bad habits. In order to focus on their duties, it is important that the clothing they choose does not distract them.
