10 Railroad Workers That Are Unexpected
Union Pacific Houston Cancer - Is Creosote Still Affecting Houstonians?

Houston's Fifth Ward neighbors have complained for decades that the company hasn’t done enough to clean the plume of underground pollution that has contaminated the rail yard. The latest tests have demonstrated that contamination could still be an issue for residents living nearby.

Researchers believe that it could be due to the large number of cancers found in the region. Two years into a state-wide health investigation the researchers found higher than anticipated rates of childhood lymphoblastic leukemia and adult kidney and renal pelvis cancers in neighborhoods surrounding the Union Pacific site.

Creosote

Creosote which is a common chemical used in the treatment of wood is also a very common one. It is also a toxic substance and can cause cancers when exposed to it.

It is a heavy oily substance that ranges from amber to black in color. It has a smoky smell and a bitter taste. Cancer Lawsuits is a distillation of coal product that has been used for over 150 years as a wood preservative.

In Railroad Injury Settlement Amounts United States, it is used to treat railroad ties and other kinds of wood including fence posts, utility poles and marine pilings. It can also be used to shield log homes and other structures from insect infestation.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Creosote is a chemical that could be dangerous. In short-term exposure, it can cause irritation to the skin and eyes as well as chemical burns, stomach pain and burning of the throat or mouth, and kidney or liver problems.

Long-term exposure could lead to skin and scrotum tumors. This is a major concern for those who come in direct contact with it during wood treatment or other manufacturing processes.

According to the EPA the EPA, it is a probable human cancer-causing agent. It has been linked with a variety kinds of cancers including esophageal as well as lung cancer.

Houston's Fifth Ward residents have been exposed for decades to creosote, thanks to a former railroad yard close to their homes. Cancer Lawsuit claim that the chemical has contaminated their homes, soil and is spreading underground.

Harris County and Houston have joined the effort against Union Pacific in federal court. They demand that the company test for contamination regularly and implement preventative measures to prevent the spread.

In October 2017, a group comprised of Fifth Ward neighbors filed a lawsuit against Union Pacific. They claim that creosote had contaminated their soil and caused significant health problems as a result of the former rail yard.

They are seeking compensation for their ailments and suffering and damages from railroads for the cost of cleanup and other related costs. They claim to have been harmed by racism in the environment and discrimination as well as other kinds of pollution that have affected their families and themselves.

Dioxin

Dioxins are a class of chemicals which do not break down quickly in the environment and can remain in the air, water, or sediment for a lengthy period of. They can be found in diverse sources, including natural disasters, industrial accidents, smoking cigarettes, and the incineration process of hazardous waste.

Although the effects of dioxin on health at low levels aren't known, there is evidence that they could cause serious illnesses such as cancer. Patients who are exposed at higher levels have been found to have an increased risk of organ cancers, heart disease as well as immune system issues and endocrine disorders including hormonal imbalances. They can also lead to hormonal issues, weakened immunity as well as diabetes, menstrual problems and weight loss.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency the most popular way that people are exposed dioxin is through drinking or eating. They are not volatile and water-soluble, which means they are more easily taken in by the body through the intake of dairy products, meat as well as fish and other seafood.

However, it is important to be aware that the amount of exposure that will have negative effects on your health will depend on several factors, such as the amount you eat or drink, how often you consume alcohol or food, and how much you breathe. It is also important to consider your age, gender, diet, nutritional status and family traits along with other health factors that can affect whether you are affected by dioxins or not.

Furthermore, the kind of contaminant is another important factor. According to the EPA certain toxins are more dangerous than others for the health of humans. Polychlorinated biphenyls, also known as PCBs, are more likely than creosote have a negative effect on your health.

PCBs can cause damage to eyes and kidneys, liver, and kidneys. They also can harm the immune system and cause problems with the development of healthy bones, teeth and bones.

Houston's Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden neighbors have complained for years about a cluster of cancer deaths that are connected to the Union Pacific rail yard. The yard is situated close to their homes. The announcement released on Friday by Houston's health department stated that it had found cancer-causing chemicals in surface samples near the rail yard. The release stated that the results were not a good sign. Mayor Sylvester Turner told FOX 26 that he's going to take legal action against Union Pacific over the matter, and said a plan submitted to Texas environmental regulators isn't adequate given the findings.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are harmful chemicals that have been used in industrial and household products for more than 60 years. These chemicals were banned in 1979 after being discovered to cause cancer, weaken the immune system, and interfere with learning.

Once released into the environment, PCBs contaminate air, water, and soil in a variety of areas around the world. They are strong binders of organic matter and can be easily transported and accumulated into the environment.

PCBs are a major problem for the protection of the environment and public health. They are classified as a probable human carcinogen by EPA, and have been demonstrated to cause cancer in lab animals.

Furthermore certain studies have found a link between PCBs to birth defects in children. This is particularly relevant for children who have been exposed to these chemicals in the womb.

The most common route for exposure to PCBs is through food items. Fish are the primary source of exposure since they contain the highest amount of PCBs. But, PCBs can also be found in beef and dairy and other agricultural products.

Drinking and showering with PCB-contaminated water is another method of exposure. This can be caused by spills or leaks that may be caused by electrical or other equipment.

In the same way, people can be exposed to PCBs through breathing in air or through their skin. These chemicals can cause an illness known as chloracne which is a small, pale yellow skin lesions which can last for weeks or even years.

However the effects of PCBs on human health aren't fully comprehended. Researchers have suggested that they may cause biliary and liver cancers in humans. However there is more research needed to understand how this impacts us.

The EPA is also studying whether these chemicals can cause birth defects in newborn babies. A low birth weight has been linked to Type II diabetes, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease later in life. Two studies showed that children born with higher levels PCBs in their cord blood had lower birth weights or an earlier age.

Lead

Lead is a highly toxic metal that is present in a variety of products like paints pipes and food cans. It can be absorbed by the body through two major pathways: the respiratory and oral.

It is a strong chemical that is oxidizing and can react with other substances in your environment. Railroad Injury Settlement Amounts can build up within the body, which could cause serious health issues such as cancer and other ailments.

Houston residents who reside near the Union Pac Railroad's creosote legacy plant have a high incidence of cancer. The city has requested the federal government to direct the railroad to cleanse the site that is contaminated.

Union Pacific Railroad has a history in which it has contaminated its Fifth Ward rail yard and Kashmere Garden neighborhood with chemicals that can cause cancer. The company has been trying to clean up the mess, but the plan submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is not enough residents say.

The plume of groundwater that flows below the homes in the affected area is one of the most grave consequences of the contamination. A recent study by the department of health shows that the concentration of creosote in soil samples around the rail yard is more than the recommended level for drinking water.

Another cause for concern is the slow release of creosote into the atmosphere. As it is, it causes residents to breathe in dangerous levels of vapors which are toxic for both children and adults.

It is possible that the vapors cause cancer in those who breathe them. A door-to-door health assessment is being conducted in the area to learn more about the effects of the vapors on the lives of residents.

This is a major issue for the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden communities. This is a tragic situation that needs to be addressed immediately.

A Department of State Health Services study found that leukemia incidences were five times higher among children who lived in the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens neighborhoods than what was expected. The study also found that adult cancers were more frequent in the neighborhoods than they were elsewhere in Texas.
