Notes

1. Carry 13.5 kg maximum, 13kg minimum
2. heavy items go up near back
3. Pack items in order of necessity
4. often used items in side pocket

Top - light gear/items that you need frequently or easy you be accessed - E.g.: sunscreen, snacks, headlamp, bandana, lightweight layers

Mid left - Lightest gear - packed towels, pillow, lightweight clothing

Mid right - Heavy gear - hydration bladder, tent, cookware, food, any other heavy camping supplies

Bottom - medium weight gear - sleeping bag, air mat, sleepy clothes, anything not needed until campsite

tent pitching - must be sheltered (not exposed), flat land, free of waste, not at risk of flood, no overhead danger, insects/wildlife
- be weary of wind (back of tent towards the wind)
- head must be higher than the feet
all members should have a role to make sure that the tent is up asap

* 2m by 2m by 2m
- ropes come out straight from seams
-check number of sizes and poles, undamaged sheets
- divide tent evenly by weight between group
- dry tent after (hang in garden/garage)
- all components of tent must be returned and put in bag before returning to school

Putting up tent:
*Find a suitable area to put up your tent – see training pack checklist
*Ensure you are correctly spaced from other tents/cooking areas
*Get all parts of the tent and lay them out on the ground
*Check all the necessary parts are there – 1 inner sheet, 1 top sheet, 2 poles and min. 12 pegs
*Unroll the top sheet and inner.
*Find the door of the tent on the inner and the top sheet.
*Insert poles into top sheet/inner to create shape of tent.
*Orientate inner in the direction you want ensuring doors match up
*Get inside tent and attach the inner starting in the centre then work back to the outside. Ensure inner corners are attached to top sheet
*Peg down the top sheet sides so it doesn’t touch the inner sheet
*Untie Guy ropes and peg out making sure they are pulling straight out from the seams and poles

Taking down a tent:
*Unpeg all guy ropes and tie up
*Unpeg inner and top sheet
*Remove the poles – push the poles out don’t pull them
*Lay out inner and fold into long strip – width of the bag
*Lay out top sheet on top of inner again into a long strip the same width as the bag.
*Place the poles at one end
*Roll up as tight as possible using the poles as the centre.
*Make sure all the air comes out
*Place the peg bag, rolled up top sheet, inner and poles in the tent bag
