How to Get Minecraft Capes

How can you get hold of Minecraft capes You might ask? There are rumors, whispers of the mythical piece of cloth that is worn on the shoulders of the most prestigious Minecraft players. The legends talk of numerous Minecraft capes that were given to the lucky few over the years. The latest news (sigh) is that capes also modify the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings that are found on end ships, since they take up the same space on the player's back. Naturally, Minecraft capes are highly sought-after but haven't been easy to get.



Participants who attended any Minecon event prior to Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft capes. Each year, a different colour and design. More rare are the personal capes given to lucky people for their achievements, such as Reddit user u/billyk_ who received a personalized turtle cape for suggesting Mojang should add turtles to Minecraft.



If you're not able to think of a solution as good as turtles (unlikely) or travel back to Minecons past It appears that you're not going to find any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They're a bit more common in the Bedrock version, as a few skin packs available in the Marketplace include them. If you want them for free, you can test on a cape with the assistance of Minecraft mods, though it'll only be visible to you. Get a Minecraft cape by migrating your account to Minecraft.



In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it is moving all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a requirement and if you don't switch your account over when the time comes and you don't get it, you'll be able to play Minecraft unless you utilize the launcher.



On the bright side, after you sign in to Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll unlock a shiny new cape - and maybe more, as Mojang hints at players receiving 'more than one outfit to display'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically set up with Microsoft instead of Mojang.

How do I activate Minecraft capes



If you own an official Minecraft cape, you are able to equip them prior to starting a game. The capes you have Bedrock caps are only available in this version. The same applies to any capes you earn in the Minecraft Java version.



For the Bedrock version start the app and then click the button to open the Dressing Room from the main menu. Next, click on the tab on the left with red capes and the Mojang logo. This will show all of your available capes So, pick one and click equip.



To play the Java version, you'll need to open the Launcher and then click Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side of the screen. There are a variety of options at the top which include Skins. To view all your skins, click this option. From here, you can either create a new skin or edit an existing one. If you select a Skin File, you will be able to view all of your available capes.



Get a cape with Minecraft mods



What happens if your avatar requires a cape but you don't want to pay for the free cape of migration? With the help of mods, you can have your own cape that will ring in your direction as you walk! Mods like the Advanced Capes Mod make it possible to get any of the most sought-after caps in the game, or any cape that you can imagine.



There is a caveat: other players you meet on multiplayer Minecraft servers will not be able to view your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. So the only way to get capes that are visible to everyone is by waiting for official capes to be handed to you from Mojang as it migrates your account.
