James is basically the legacy of Jacob’s wisdom.
And he’s goal wasn’t to teach theological information, instead he wanted to get in our business and challenge the way we live.
He’s major influences were Jesus teachings specifically the sermon in the mount (Matthew 5-7) and the book of proverbs chapter 1-9.
Chapters 2-5 consist if 12 teachings about wholehearted devotion to Jesus
Jacob recognized that life is hard, and he learned this from experience but he also said that he believed that in Life trials and hardships there were paradoxical gifts to produce endurance and shape our character make us “perfect”
Now the word “perfect was really important for jacob, that he even repeated it or mentioned it 7 times throughout the books.
Now in biblical Hebrew and greek this word referred as wholeness as of being “whole/ complete”
And we can see that wholeness and integrity go hand by hand
In order to understand this we got to keep in mind that God can do amazing work inside of us in the midst of suffering and processes, and that this would help us become complete or as jacob said perfect.
