Check Out What Railroad Workers Tricks Celebs Are Utilizing
Union Pacific Houston Cancer - Is Creosote Still Affecting Houstonians?

Houston's Fifth Ward neighbors have complained for years that the company hasn't taken the necessary steps to clean the underground plume that was contaminated with rail yard. And now, the latest tests suggest that the contamination could still be affecting people who live nearby.

Researchers say it may be related to elevated cancer rates in the region. Two years after the launch of an investigation into health issues across the state and a study by researchers, they found that there were higher than expected rates of childhood lymphoblastic and adult pelvis and kidney cancers in the region around the Union Pacific site.

Creosote

Creosote is a common chemical employed in the treatment of wood. It is also a cause of cancer in those who are exposed to it.

It is a thick oily substance which is black or amber in appearance and has a smoky smell and a burnt flavor. It is a distillation of coal product that has been used for more than 150 years to preserve wood.

It is widely used in the United States to treat railroad tieways, as well as other kinds of woods, like fence posts, utility poles, and marine pilings. It is also used to protect log homes and other structures against rot and insect infestation.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that creosote may be a dangerous chemical. A short-term exposure could cause eye and skin irritation chemical burns, stomach pain burning of the throat or mouth and liver or kidney issues.

Long-term exposure could lead to skin and scrotum cancers. Workers who come into direct contact with it during wood treatment or other manufacturing processes are susceptible to cancer.

It is thought to be a probable human carcinogen, as per the EPA. It has been linked with many types of cancer, including esophageal as well lung cancer.

Houston's Fifth Ward residents have been exposed for decades to creosote, because of a former railroad yard near their homes. They claim that the chemical has affected their soil, homes and is spreading underground.

Harris County and Houston have joined the effort against Union Pacific in federal court. They are requesting that the company tests regularly for contamination and to take steps to prevent it from spreading.

A group of Fifth Ward neighbors filed an action against Union Pacific in October of 2017. They claim that creosote that was emitted from the former rail yard is contaminating the soil under their homes and causing serious health issues.

They are seeking compensation for their diseases and suffering as well as damages from the railroad for the cost of cleaning and other costs. They claim they have been affected by environmental racism discrimination, sexism, and other kinds of pollution that have affected them and their families.

Dioxin

Dioxins are a class of chemicals that don't break down quickly in the environment and they can be found in the soil, air, water or in sediment for a long duration. They can be derived from a variety of sources, including natural catastrophes, industrial accidents cigarette smoke and incineration of hazardous waste.

Railroad Cancer of dioxin are not clear at low levels, but there is evidence that they can cause cancer and other serious diseases. People exposed to higher levels have been found to be at a higher risk of organ cancers, heart disease, immune system disorders and endocrine disorders, such as hormonal imbalances. They can also trigger hormonal issues, weakened immunity, diabetes, menstrual issues and weight loss.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency the most frequent way people are exposed to dioxin is through drinking water or food. They are not water-soluble or volatile, therefore they are more likely to be in the body through the consumption of dairy products, fish, and other seafood.

It is crucial to keep in mind, however, that exposure to chemicals can have a detrimental effect on your health, based on numerous factors like how much you drink, eat, and the frequency with which you breathe. It is also important to consider your gender, age, nutrition, and family characteristics to determine if you'll be exposed to dioxins.

Furthermore, the kind of contaminant is another important aspect. According to the EPA certain toxins are more harmful than others to human health. Polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs are more likely than creosote negatively impact your health.

PCBs can cause damage to the eyes and liver, kidneys and kidneys. They can also harm the immune system and cause problems with the development of healthy bones, teeth and bones.

Houston's Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden neighbors have complained for years of cluster of cancer deaths that are that are linked to the Union Pacific rail yard. The yard is situated close to their homes. The city's health department reported on Friday that it had discovered cancer-causing chemicals in surface samples around the rail yard. The release said the results were not encouraging. Mayor Sylvester Turner told FOX 26 that he's planning to take legal action against Union Pacific over the matter, and said a plan that he has submitted to Texas environmental regulators isn't adequate in light of the findings.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)

PCBs, also known as polychlorinated biphenyls, are harmful chemicals that have been in use for more than 60 years in industrial and consumer products. After being proven to cause cancer and inhibit the immune system the immune system, these chemicals were banned in 1979.

PCBs can be harmful to soil and water as well as air in a variety of regions of the world after they are released into the environment. They are strong binders of organic matter, and are transported easily and accumulated in the environment.

This is why PCBs constitute a major risk for the protection of health and safety of people and the environment. The EPA considers them a potential carcinogen for humans and has proven that they can cause cancer in lab animals.

Certain studies also link PCBs to birth defects in children. This is especially relevant for children who are exposed to these chemicals in the womb.

The most common route for exposure to PCBs is through food. Because they are the highest in PCBs Fish is the primary source of exposure. However, PCBs can also be present in beef and dairy and other agricultural products.

Railroad Cancer Lawyer to get exposed to PCBs is through drinking and showering with water that has been infected with PCBs. Railroad Cancer Lawyer can be caused by leaks or spillages in electrical or other equipment.

People may also be exposed to PCBs through breathing in the air or through skin contact. These chemicals can trigger a condition called chloracne, which is a small, pale skin lesions that can last from a few weeks to a few years.

However, the effects of PCBs on human health are not yet fully known. Researchers have suggested that they may cause liver and biliary cancers in humans. However it is necessary to conduct more research to determine how this affects us.

The EPA is also examining whether these chemicals could cause birth defects in newborn babies. A low birth weight has been linked to Type II diabetes, insulin resistance and high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease later in life. Two studies have shown that children with higher levels of PCBs in their cord blood were born with lower birth weights and/or older.

Lead

Lead is a toxic metal and can be found in a wide range of products, including pipes, paints, and food cans. The body can absorb it through two routes: respiratory and oral.

It is a strong oxidizing agent and tends to react with other chemicals in the surrounding. This can lead to it accumulating in the body , and could lead to serious health problems like cancer, among other illnesses.

In Houston residents living near a creosote legacy treatment facility run by Union Pacific Railroad have a high rate of cancer. The city has asked the federal government for an order to the railroad to clean its contaminated facility.

Union Pacific Railroad has a history in which it has been a source of contamination for its Fifth Ward rail yard and Kashmere Garden neighborhood with chemicals that can cause cancer. Residents have claimed that the company has been working to clean up contamination but the plan that was submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was not sufficient.

Groundwater plume below the homes in the affected area is among the most severe consequences of the contamination. A recent study by health officials has found that soil samples from the rail yard contain more creosote than what is required for drinking water.

Another concern is that the creosote is slowly dispersing into the air. It causes residents to breathe in dangerous levels of vapors that can be dangerous for children and adults.

It is also possible that fumes are causing cancers to the people who breathe the vapors. To find out more about the effect of the vapors' effects on the lives of residents, a door-to-door survey is being done in the neighborhood.

This is a major issue for the Fifth Ward communities and Kashmere Gardens. It's a pity and must be dealt with immediately.

A Department of State Health Services study found that the rate of leukemia was five times higher among children who lived in the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens neighborhoods than was anticipated. The study also revealed that adult cancers were more common in these neighborhoods than in other areas of Texas.
