For many, the main problem with Minecraft's Pocket and Windows 10 Editions has been the lack of community-generated content. Microsoft and Mojang are launching a Marketplace that lets both Pocket and Windows 10 gamers download content from community creators, such as textures, skins and even whole worlds. You don't purchase any paid content directly -- instead, you pay "Minecraft Coins" that allow you to purchase the add-ons that you want. While it can help mask the actual worth of what you're purchasing, it is actually used by producers to determine "flexible pricing." You might not want to allow children to have unlimited access to the internet, for instance.
The Marketplace lets creators register businesses only. It won't allow you to create your app just to have entertainment. However, those who do join receive a 70 percent cut of the revenue, much like typical mobile app stores. Although they might not make as much selling directly, a merchant who is successful still makes lots of money.
The Marketplace will initially be restricted to access. The beta version of the Marketplace will be open to the general public in the middle of April. There won't be any creator content, as that will have to wait until the official launch in spring. However, this will do something to make the difference between your Minecraft experience on your computer and mobile devices.
