I am awestruck by my personal pick for the best horror film ever The Evil Dead from 1981. The Evil Dead, more and more every time I watch it. It's the same for sequels (Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness) and soft reboot from 2013, that I would not consider a true remake, but would count in the top ten best horror movie remakes if I did. I'm also finding myself thinking about something different about this tale of gruesome and often morbidly funny tales of demonic possession with every viewing.

My most recent rewatch of the original four Evil Dead movies in preparation for the soon-to-be released five-parter, Evil Dead Rise -- the one film I'm anticipating the most no exception. What do you think? simple screwheads take the time to go through this list of the fun things that struck me when I rewatched one of the best horror movie franchises in history? Let's start from the beginning.

A few might write off The Evil Dead as just another cabin in the woods film, however a deeper study of the terrifying film's seminal masterpiece reveals how complicated director and writer Sam Raimi's screenplay really is. Consider, for instance the film's inventive use of foreshadowing, an aspect of the narrative that , I'm ashamed to admit, was not apparent to me until this most recent rewatch. I am awed by the way the film teases Cheryl Williams' (Ellen Sandweiss) future fate after she is able to see the cellar door open and close at will early in, and when her older brother, Ash (Bruce Campbell in the role which made him a popular horror movie icon) discovers a sketch within the Necronomicon that is reminiscent of the book as it "comes to life" at the very close of the film.

It's not that I've never noticed how blood pours from the possessed Scotty's (Richard DeManincor, who is credited as Hal Delrich) stomach wound like a faucet up to now. But this was the first time I really paid any mind to it. It seems like I was fascinated by the picture of blood that has a resemblance to cherries Kool-Aid instead of corn syrup that has been dyed. I'm sure I'll appreciate its uniqueness more now than ever, even if the blood is more precise in the rest of the franchise.

Another scene from the visceral finale of The Evil Dead that has never failed to mesmerize me is when arms explosively emerge from Cheryl and Scotty's defeated Deadite themselves. For a long time, I assumed that this was another example of Raimi's otherworldly visual talents however, it dawned on me this time around that these arms are demons and, specifically, that of the demons who controlled Ash's companions. Have you ever witnessed something so bizarre and terrifying in a horror film that is supernatural dealing with demonic possession like, say, The Exorcist? I don't think so.
