Patronus merupakan mantra satu-satunya untuk menghadapi Dementor. Selain itu Patronus juga bisa digunakan sebagai alat komunikasi yang tidak bisa dipalsukan dan sangat aman bagi wizard. Untuk bisa menghasilkan bentuk yang sempurna, pemantra harus memikirkan memori yang paling bahagia dalam hidupnya. Jika memori yg dipikirkan kurang bahagia maka patronus yg dihasilkan tidak akan sempurna (incorporeal patronus=hanya jadi tameng melawan dementor). Bentuk patronus setiap orang berbeda-beda karena tergantung sifat dan juga objek kebahagiaan pemantranya.
ARITHMANCY
Arithmancy adalah proses ramalan dengan cara menjumlah huruf yang menjadi subjek. Terdapat 2 cara mengkonvenrsi huruf yaitu dengan metode agrippa dan metode chaldea. Metode agrippa terbagi 3, yaitu angka nama (angka dihitung dengan semua huruf), angka personalitas (angka dihitung dengan huruf konsonannya saja), dan angka hati (angka dihitung dengan huruf hidup yaitu A I U E O).
Sedangkan metode Chaldea diambil dari bahasa aramik dan metode ini jarang digunakan dalam perhitungan aritmancy. Metode ini hampir sama dengan metode agrippa, namun di metode chaldea tidak menggunakan angka 9 dan hurufnyapun menurut pada abjad yahudi.
