Minecraft Texture Packs: Creating Creative Constructions Using Improved Graphics

Minecraft is a video game that permits its players to construct constructions made of textured cubes in an environment that is three-dimensional. Mojang, an Swedish firm, released the first version of Minecraft in May 2009. Another beta version was launched in December of 2010. Recently, Mojang released the latest version of Minecraft for iOS and Android platforms on November 18, 2011 during the MineCon 2011 trade show. Minecraft isn't supported by all Android-based devices. At present, Minecraft is exclusively available only for Xperia Play.



Graphically, there is nothing too impressive about Minecraft. You will not find any shades in the game graphics, and it's available in low resolution imaging. The drawbacks can be addressed by using Minecraft Texture packs or Mods. The Minecraft Texture Mods and Packs do not just give you more choices of backgrounds from the Minecraft world. Mods can also boost the resolution of the images. In essence, other than changing the graphics, there are no other applications for the Mods. However, various backgrounds may make your gaming experience more fun and less boring. These Mods or texture packs are only available for Macs and Windows computers.



There are a variety of texture packs that you can download and apply to your Minecraft game. Optifine is one of them. The Optifine mod is very popular because it has both improved performance and graphical qualities. The change isn't that drastic. Nevertheless, the mod can make certain effects more smooth in the game. Water Shade Alpha is another example of a Minecraft mod. It is not possible to use this mod in conjunction with Optifine because they aren't compatible with each other. Water Shade Alpha texture pack makes the water effects in the game look more realistic.

To install a texture pack on Windows you must follow these instructions:



1. Make sure you have an extractor program such as WinRar.



2. Click "run" in the menu bar. If you use Windows XP, type "%appdata%.minecraftbin"; if you use Windows Vista or 7, you will need to type "C:Users*YourUserName*AppDataRoaming.minecraftbin".



3. After entering the information, you will notice that a folder will appear. You will find minecraft.jar inside.



4. Right-click the file, click the "Open With ..."" option from the popup menu , and choose "WinRar Archiver". This will take you to an open WinRar program that will show you some folders and files with an extension of png.



5. Drag the textures from the pack and drop them into WinRar directly. This will change the texture in the game and your new textures will be ready to play.
