Notorious Studios Breaks free from World of Warcraft to Create its Own Worlds

Chris Kaleiki worked on World of Warcraft at Blizzard, where he spent many years creating and managing classes of characters. He also developed the monk character for the Mists of Pandaria expansion. To make the most of this experience, he launched Notorious Studios.



"Ultimately we're all world builders on our team. We like building worlds. Kaleiki explained to GamesBeat that this is we will be focusing on in our first game. The studio currently has eight members, all of whom are former World of Warcraft team players. Many of them were members of his WoW guild that was also known as Notorious.



Although he would not provide any details about the game's future however, he did say that it will be a multiplayer game with third person action. It will not be an MMO, but it will be similar to one. Kaleiki hopes to expand the size of the studio by 12 by the beginning of next year.



Blizzard and, in particular, the World of Warcraft Team, have been in the news for investigations into their workplace practices as well as allegations of sexual harassment.



"The issues that Blizzard's faced that were discovered over the past few months or so have been difficult to talk about," Kaleiki said. "It also affects us, even though we've been out of Blizzard for a while."



How can Notorious avoid making the same mistakes that plagued Blizzard?

We're not leads or directors. In our previous careers we were all contributors. We were the ones who would simply code or build or make art or design things. Riots help

Notorious has established a partnership with Riot Games. The new studio was developed by the League of Legends developer.



"I believe they're a developer who is very concerned about the experience of players and also," Kaleiki said. "They have a franchise that is loved by players. We have a lot of friends and colleagues who work at Riot and worked at Blizzard. I've always had a clear view of them."



This kind of support could be vital to helping Notorious launch its first project. The help doesn't come only from Riot. The investment round attracted $5 million, with Galaxy Interactive as the lead investor.



Kaleiki said, "We're excited about the concept of this studio and how we'll establish a culture and what types of games we can create,"
