Dr Welchman practiced medication in Uganda, the place he was primarily involved in treating leprosy and malaria. He later specialised in radiology at King Edward and Addington hospitals. He was born in Devon, England and attended University College Cardiff in Wales and obtained his Master’s in parasitology in 1980.
In 1985, Dr Coleman co-founded the poverty-fighting company Kagiso Trust, with the likes of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu (honoris causa LLD 1993), Eric Molobi (LLD honoris causa 2000) and Dr Beyers Naudé. Coleman would go on to function one of the first commissioners of the South African Human Rights Commission and as an MP in Nelson Mandela’s authorities of nationwide unity. Unfortunately, the WRF was viewed with suspicion by more traditional forces, who thought of a Wits presence in a remote rural space a departure from its core perform as an city university.
She wrote three educational books on gender and education and an autobiography, The Long Way Home. On her return to South Africa in 1991 she labored first in the Centre for Adult and Continuing Education after which on the Education Policy Unit at the University of the Western Cape till she retired in 1998. The final remaining Holocaust survivor in KwaZulu-Natal, Carmela Heilbron, née Heyman (BA 1962), died on thirteen January 2023.
He is survived by his spouse Sheila and their youngsters and grandchildren. Dal Mas had a passion for mostly classic automobiles, and he worked for varied companies within the automotive industry. He moved to Sydney in Australia for three years, where he deliberate to return. His warmth, integrity and down to earth nature are tremendously missed by his household and colleagues. He is survived by his mother and father, sister Sonya (BCom 1999, BCom Hons 2000) and wife Alessandra.

She and her husband, Harry (BA 1936, LLB 1938) were the primary members of both their households to go to college, and so they had been adopted to Wits by their three siblings, their three sons, and by many nephews and nieces.
He additionally beloved motion pictures and had a powerful collection of DVDs of his favourite actors. Few knew he was an avid painter and sculptor and a fervent customer to museums. His many travels across the globe made him a fountain of world information and a captivating storyteller. Professor Gavin Norton (BSc 1982, MBBCh 1986, PhD Med 1993), a much beloved and revered member of the Wits staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences, died on 1 December 2022. His spouse Sheila predeceased him, as did his two sons Irwin and Mark who had extreme disabilities and he is survived by his daughter Anne Wilkinson. Educationist, educational and pal of Wits University for over 5 decades, Professor John Bradley died on 28 December 2022.
