Over-Optimization SEO Today
In the aftermath of one of Google's latest updates Over-Optimization has become a point of emphasis in SEO. A prime exemplory case of over-optimization would be a precise match domain, with an exact page title, an Unnatural page description and a high keyword density within the pages content. Additionally, if all of your backlinks are designed with the same anchor text, this can also now effect your site negatively.

I'm going to be more specific...

Lets say your primary target keyword was "earn money on the Internet".

If your domain name is makemoneyontheInternet.com & your pages title is earn money on the net and the pages description reads, "discover how to make money on Internet", all while the pages content has make money on the Internet stuffed in everywhere, then that page is totally guilty of over-optimization.

If all that pages backlinks are anchored with "make money on the net" this falls into the same over-optimization category.

Now, that's not to say exact match domains won't work, your page title and description shouldn't include your target keyword or that the anchor text of one's backlinks shouldn't use said keyword. These strategies do work, but they can be used in moderation.

Google and the other major search engines desire to believe that other folks besides the webmaster are linking into a site, so logical thinking indicate anchor text would be mostly different. When I work on a clients site I'm always sure to help keep anchor text really confusing. Of course I use the mark keywords, but I'll also include a few raw URL's as well as a few "click here" or "take a look out" as well.

Unfortunately many people fail to understand a major facet of SEO which can provide them with a lot of trouble is that optimizing their pages too well. Search engines desire to list pages their users desire to find, and many of those pages don't pay much attention to SEO. The sites that do pay attention to SEO sometimes overdo it.

A lot of the pages with the best content are manufactured by individuals who know little to nothing about SEO. They simply want to write about something they care about. For this reason, search engines often favor content that's not optimized "perfectly". Should you choose everything by the book, you risk search engines seeing your page as unnatural and hitting you with a penalty.

It is a newly learned fact, if you do all or even many of these things, in excess you will find a very good chance you can and will most likely be penalized. You probably won't be banned A.K.A DE-indexed that is the worst case scenario, however your site could also find yourself many or higher positions lower than it will or could be.

If that is something you imagine you website or blog maybe guilty even, I'd have to say you absolutely will feel the unwanted effects of it.

Again, just for the record Let me sate these strategies do work when used responsibly and once again, I'm going to be more specific as to how...

If your domain is an exact match, that's great, but if your domain is buyshoes.com, the page title ought to be learn to buy shoes, the description could be visit buyshoes.com for the widest variety of shoes, online and the keyword density of the pages content shouldn't exceed 1-3% for desired results...
