Slip and fall, trip and stump
The most common type of fall is a slip or trip. It occurs when your foot loses traction on a surface, such as ice or standing water. When you slip, you lose your balance and you fall.

Often, these slips happen on wet floors or on surfaces that are naturally slippery. However, it can also happen on dry or hard floors as well.

Step and fall
Occupational Health and Safety calls a step and fall a “working and walking surface fall.” This type of fall is caused by an unexpected change in the height of a surface, such as an uneven or sloping floor.

Same-levelfall
The second kind of working and walking surface fall is the “same-level fall.” This type of fall occurs when your front foot contacts a surface, but then your rear foot slips backward and you fall forward.

This is a less frequent but more severe form of fall. In Florida agriculture, 17 percent of serious injuries are from elevated falls. In these cases, the injured person hits their head or falls over a railing or other object and breaks a bone.
