Red Moon in Venus - Kali Uchis Hoodies
The Columbian-American singer has spent the greater part of a decade revising the meanings of pop music that defies genres. Uchis she has perfected mixing bossa-nova with R&B exotica on her self-titled album that is modern-day La Lupe. She channels music from all over the world with a range of expression, which gives her its unique appeal.


With her latest album, Red Moon in Venus, the artist has delivered her most personal album to her to. The album features the singer exploring seclusion, heartbreak and self-doubt. In spite of these themes of sadness, the album is still filled with unmistakable swagger and awe. This album is an ode that sings about the sorrow and love of human existence. Aural fragrance that spans different genres, this album features production from a wide variety of artists, including BIA, Tyler the Creator, Reykon and Jorja Smith.


Uchis describes herself as a music "dork" and her eclectic musical preferences have led to a unique mash-up of styles that can be seen in the songs that make up the album. Her gorgeous alto voice and hypnotic delivery give the songs a sensual edge.


Her powerful voice is a potent enchantment, even when tracks touch on romantic distrust like "Tyrant," and the love song with a hint of regret like 'In My Dreams'. The horny, 'Back To Black'-inspired 'Gotta get Up' demonstrates her ability to deliver a hook that's both catchy and shaky.


Uchis's gorgeous voice is apparent throughout the album. It shows a greater sense of wisdom and maturity. The dark and sultry evocation of 'Deserve Me It is inspired by the knowledge that it's more beneficial to be on your own and not be in a toxic relationships. She's calm and cool, however, she doesn't come off as being apathy, or resignation on the R&B love song 'Blue' or the psychedelia in undulating waves of "Moral Conscience.".



The sparse and spartan world-building on 'Red Moon in Venus' is more artfully delineated than on any of Uchis' previous projects thanks to seamless transitions and production/arrangement work from Josh Crocker, Mndsgn and RnB impresario Darkchild who provide a tempered base for her quixotic melodrama to unfurl. Visit My Website refers to the mythical red moon, that is a common theme in mythology and astrology as an indicator of the earthly and divine alignment. The album's name is a reference to the mythical blood-red moon, which appears in astrology as well as ancient mythology to signify divine and earthly alignment.


The line for Uchis's meet-and-greet is a long, busy street in Echo Park, and her fans clad in pink sweatshirts and silver velour lounge pants look like proud graduates of the Kali Uchis School of High-Femme Luxury as well as Gentle Romance. They are carrying lavender tea as well as clear lip gloss as they wait to greet the singer and pose for photographs in front of a sculptural installation of roses in pink.


She sips from an enormous ceramic mug, and looks at the photos of her Colombian family which includes one of her grandfather. Then, she smiles and heads towards the front door and sees that her manager has put out blankets in fleece and water for guests. Her cat, Bunny, saunters in after her.
