This is a national holiday that remembers the students who protested against the military junta that controlled the country from 1967 to 1974. Another major holiday is Independence Day, which is on 25 March and is celebrated in the capital with a military parade, a concert at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and an illumination of the Acropolis.
