Industries such as oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, power generation, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical are highly dependent on stainless steel seamless pipes to carry out their day-to-day operations. There are two main manufacturing processes used for creating these products: cold drawing and hot drawing. Let us discover what these processes involve in order to craft these highly sought-after seamless pipes.

To initiate either process, stainless steel must be heated to a specific temperature. For hot drawing, the metal has to surpass its recrystallization point; whereas for cold drawing, it must stay below the recrystallization point.

The steel, heated until it is ready, is placed within a die, a cylinder molded to the sought-after form of the pipe. This tool is then pressurized with a mandrel to push the metal through it. This mandrel - a long metal rod - is only slightly narrower than the diameter of the die, enabling the pipe to pass.

As pressure is applied, the steel yields to the form of the die, resulting in thinner walls that envelop the pipe.

When emt conduit tubing is complete, it needs to be calibrated. Cooling in oxygen or H2O is the traditional technique during cold drawing, while hot drawing calls for a dropdown temperature within an annealing chamber.

With the pipe now at a cool and manageable temperature, it is chopped down to the size that it must be. Finishing the two raw ends of the pipe brings it to its final state, prepared for use.
