Satwa ini memiliki kepala yang mirip dgn elang raksasa. sedangkan tubuhnya mirip seperti kuda. Dia ini asli eropa, tetapi kini ditemukan di seluruh dunia. Matanya berwarna oranye, makanan mereka sebagian besar adalah serangga, burung-burung, dan mamalia kecil. Cakar pada kaki depan mereka itu setengah dari panjang kaki mereka.
Hippogriff yang dikembangbiakkan membangun sarang diatas tanah, mereka menyimpan sebutir telur yang akan menetas dlm waktu 24 jam. Hippogriff muda siap terbang dalam waktu seminggu, tetapi membutuhkan waktu berbulan-bulan sebelum ia bisa menemani orangtuanya menempuh perjalanan yang lebih jauh. jangan coba-coba untuk menyakitinya. Hippogriff ini mudah tersinggung
