Marilyn Manson Merch
Marilyn Manson, a goth rocker who formed the glam metal group The Spooky Kids in 1989, modeled his look after horror film icons Ozzy Osbourne & Charles Manson. He wanted to shock. This image, along with his music, would propel the group into mainstream fame. They released albums like Portrait of an American Family (also known as Antichrist Superstar), Holy Wood and Mechanical Animals, as well several E.Ps, and toured around the globe.

The band was named after psycho killer Charles Manson and Marilyn Monroe, who were both heavily influenced at the time by punk bands and metal. Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails produced the band's first albums. They contained explicit Satanic lyrics and imagery, setting them apart.

Manson’s elaborate stage shows, makeup and costumes quickly earned the band a large following. In many states, the band was prohibited from performing due to Manson's infamous image. In spite of this, the band continued to tour and release more albums and videos while becoming a mainstay on MTV.

As time passed, the band's merch became increasingly controversial. Schools censored many of the t-shirts because they contained blasphemous imagery or lewd lyrics. Sometimes, t-shirts worn by teens were not allowed into schools or they had to be removed.

A high school student named Nicholas Boroff, who attended Van Wert High School in Ohio in August 1997, was kicked out of class for wearing a Marilyn Manson T-shirt that depicted a three-faced Jesus. The shirt had the word "believe" highlighted, with a Pentagram underneath it. This was deemed offensive by the teacher.

The iconic image of the man lounging on the toilet from the band’s 'Antichrist Superstar era' was another of the first Marilyn Manson shirt designs to be censored. The image, which was not a simple parody on the "Satan's Bake Sale" logo, was instead used to play off the imagined perceptions of a supposed Satanic image among Christians who became obsessed after the band's popularity.

Manson's career would be marked by the use of such imagery, with the most notable being the depiction on the cover art of the album "Holy Wood" of Jesus Christ and Mary as the "Monkey Trinity". Baphomet, an occult-like devil, appears in both the artworks for 'Portrait of an American Family and 'Antichrist Svperstar.' marilyn manson merch from the era of "Smells Like Children", which featured the ventriloquist with his dummy, also features this image.
