Continuum Of Addiction Care is a treatment system that allows patients to receive the right kind of services at each stage of recovery. This helps patients focus on long-term strategies and recognize progress in their lives. If you need help, please reach out to Santa Barbara Recovery .
Substance use disorder is a complex condition that requires individualized treatment. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) has established different levels of treatment, which allow people with addiction to enter the level most suited to their needs. They can also switch levels as they progress through treatment.
Inpatient
Inpatient addiction care is a safe, monitored environment for individuals who need treatment for substance use disorders. These programs offer 24-hour supervision and a range of services including medical detoxification (if needed).
Clients who enter into a residential program typically stay for a month or longer, depending on their level of severity. They receive medically supervised detoxification, therapy, and other support services.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are also available for clients with complex symptoms or co-occurring mental health conditions that may not be well-suited for inpatient treatment. IOPs consist of more hours of treatment per week than outpatient and are typically recommended for those who need a step-down level of care after inpatient rehab or residential treatment.
Our continuum of care is designed to guide people through the recovery process without relapses. This includes community support services and sober living housing.
Partial Hospitalization
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides treatment for mental health and addiction issues. PHP services include therapy, group sessions, medication management, and counseling.
Partial hospitalization is a step down from residential treatment. It is a type of day treatment that allows people to continue living at home but commute to a facility up to seven days a week for therapy.
The PHP model is being increasingly used by hospitals and community-based programs to provide more intensive care for persons who are acutely ill with behavioral health disorders.
During the course of a PHP, people receive comprehensive care and medical monitoring during the day. They don't stay overnight at the center and are usually able to return home at night.
Partial hospitalization is a great option for those who have not had success with outpatient or inpatient treatment but still need a higher level of support. It's also a good choice for those with co-occurring conditions.
Outpatient
Outpatient addiction care is a form of treatment that involves group and individual therapy, education, and family involvement. It is typically a good option for people who need help to stop using drugs or alcohol and who are able to go to their treatment sessions on their own.
Outpatient programs are usually divided into levels according to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) guidelines. Level 1 is the least intensive and includes fewer than 9 hours of intervention per week for adults or fewer than 6 hours per week for adolescents.
Intensive outpatient is more intense and requires at least nine hours of group or individual therapy per week, including counseling and educational activities. This is a step up from outpatient but still less intensive than residential rehab.
Those who require more intensive treatment can participate in a partial hospitalization program. This type of program is generally a step up from outpatient and can last 28 days or longer. Medication-assisted treatment is also a part of this type of care.
Aftercare
Aftercare is an essential part of recovery, as it provides a bridge from higher levels of care back into daily life. It also prevents relapse.
Addiction is a chronic brain disorder that requires ongoing treatment and maintenance to stay sober. Continuum Of Addiction Care is a system that helps to ensure that people receive the support they need at each stage of their recovery.
Clients enter the continuum of addiction care in various levels based on their needs and the intensity of their condition. The ASAM continuum of addiction care aims to reduce or eliminate relapse between treatment programs.
