Charing Cross in the City of Westminster, Central London was the base for a magnificent public square known as Trafalgar Square. This name honors the British Navy's successful battle with its rivals France and Spain on 21 October 1805 near Cape Trafalgar in Spain.

Trafalgar Square has a rich heritage, starting out as the Manor of Ebury, which was owned by Westminster Abbey in the 18th century. Seemingly fatefully, the area began its history as an expanse of golden corn. For the first time on record, the name "Trafalgar Square" emerged in 1786. Taking shape during the early 19th century and evolving over time, its most iconic landmarks have come to define it - from Nelson's Column and its commanding status as a tribute to Admiral Horatio Nelson, erected in 1843, to the guardian-like quartet of lion statues that arrived a few decades later in 1868.

The historic square remains a dynamic hub of public life, hosting everything from political rallies to open-air concerts and football matches. Its proximity to iconic London landmarks like Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, and Big Ben also make it a sought-after destination among travelers visiting the city.

Not to be left without square pipes of getting in and out, the majestic square is blessed with four London Underground stations - Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Covent Garden - surrounding it.
