The mass airflow sensor is an essential monitoring system incorporated into an internal combustion engine's air intake. It is tasked with the important job of determining the mass flowrate of air going into the engine, so that the engine control unit can accurately adjust output to match the fuel input. The 1993 Toyota Pickup 4-cylinder is equipped with a hot-wire type mass air flow sensor. This impressive device utilizes a heat-sensitive thin wire that is powered by an electric current. The MAF sensor present in the air filter box of the 4-cylinder Toyota Pickup is responsible for sensing the airflow into the engine. It does this by registering a pressure drop across the air filter, which is converted into a signal and sent to the ECU. The ECU then works out how much fuel must be injected into the engine depending on the signal's readings.
