This wacky version of a tiger in the style of carpets from the past. The stunning blue eyes as well as the red stripes and pink body of the tiger stand out against the aqua-colored background. You can also add an olive green velvet to create a striking and amorphous look.
The exact date of this tiger cushion is not known, however Dr. Otto Samson gave a similar pillow made of cloth in the year 1951. He conducted research in China between 1929 between 1929 and 1948. It's likely that the item was made prior to 1948, since tigers are prevalent in Chinese art.
Cloth Tiger dolls (Bu laohu, bulaohu Wu which translates to "tiger pillows") are toys of the common man that children get to protect them from injury and bad health and also to bring good luck. They are typically characterized by a sly face, short legs, and lots of fabric. This one is from the Horniman Museum is different because it doesn't feature an animal and has an unifying color scheme.
