A Systematic Review of Poster Reviews
Posters are a popular format for displaying information and can be found everywhere: in shops, on billboards, walls, doors and windows. They offer high visibility and are highly effective at encouraging response, such as visits to a website or social media page, phone calls, email requests and in-person reviews.

Poster presentations are an established mode of presenting health information at conferences and in the community. Anecdotal evidence suggests that poster presentations are an effective method of knowledge translation but little empirical research has been undertaken to examine the effectiveness of this form of presentation. This systematic review was conducted to identify, evaluate and report on the available data examining the effectiveness of poster presentations in promoting knowledge transfer.

Studies were eligible if they were relevant to the study question and had provided empirical evidence of the effectiveness of poster presentations in promoting changes in participant knowledge, attitude or behaviour. The results suggest that posters have the potential to promote learning, but the effect is limited. Posters should be designed with a clear and concise message, and should be presented in a visually appealing manner. In addition, a brief summary of the main findings should be included. Consider limiting the amount of text in your poster to accurately convey your message, reserving space for graphics. Use font sizes that are large enough to be read from a distance of 3 to 5 feet (usually 24-point or larger). Words should be written in both upper and lowercase letters, but not all caps. It is recommended that a poster contains no more than three different fonts.

Ensure that your poster is clearly presented and easy to understand by proofreading your poster before submission. A good idea is to ask a colleague who has no knowledge of your research or case to help with this. They will quickly be able to point out errors in grammar, spelling and clarity.

A poster containing the most important findings can be easily interpreted at a glance and provides the viewer with a snapshot of your work. It can also be used to trigger discussions and provide a useful resource for future reference.

Encourage customers to leave a review through eye-catching posters and table tents. Although verbal requests for reviews are effective, not everyone is receptive to them. A poster asking for a review can be a reminder to do so or can help overcome reluctance, especially among customers who don’t have the time or patience to respond to a written request.
