An aviation giant, Air Arabia, has its headquarters located in the Sharjah Freight Center at Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. The airline is renowned for providing budget-friendly flights to as many as 150 world-wide destinations across 22 countries, stretching from the Middle East and North Africa to the Indian Subcontinent, Central Asia, and Europe. It is a subsidiary of Air Arabia and is quickly becoming a market leader in cost-effective travel.
On 3 February 2003, Air Arabia was founded by the Emirati business magnate Abdullah bin Mohammad Al Thani. Subsequently, since then, Air Arabia has established its presence in five countries: Sharjah, Amman Jordan, Cairo Egypt, Morocco and Dhaka Bangladesh - each one having a separate airline operating under its name.
On 28 October 2003, Air Arabia began running its services, offering daily flights between Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah via two aircraft. To mark its journey, the airline embarked on an initial public offering (IPO) on 15 November 2004 and was officially listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) barely two weeks later on 27 November 2004.
In 2005, Air Arabia smashed onto the scene by introducing Alexandria as a new destination and enhancing the frequency of its already existent routes. This feat was further cemented in 2006 with the addition of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia onto their destinations list.
2007 was a year of significant achievements for Air Arabia, as it expanded its horizons beyond the Middle East, inaugurating services to Khartoum in Africa and Chennai in India. This landmark launch marked the first time in history that the airline provided air travel from these countries as well.
In 2008, Air Arabia would begin its journey to Erbil in Northern Iraq as well as Tbilisi of the Caucasus lands, marking the airline's initiation into a new realm. The following year, their venture would see further growth with the opening of a hub in Alexandria that served to connect it to even more distant places such as India's Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Kochi - not to forget Yerevan of Armenia and Baku of Azerbaijan.
In the first half of 2010, the Air Arabia group reaped a windfall of AED752 million (US$205 million) in profits.
Air Arabia's flight path showed no signs of stalling, as new routes and stops were steadily added to their network over the years. 2012 marked the addition of two exciting cities, Salalah in Oman and Sialkot in Pakistan, to the realm of Air Arabia destinations.
In 2013, Air Arabia set its wings in motion to fly to four extraordinary locations - Najaf in Iraq, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Kiev in Ukraine, and Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan - for yet another busy year of service.
During the full year 2013, the Air Arabia conglomerate was delighted to share news of their exceptional AED1.3 billion (US$353 million) profit.
In 2014, Air Arabia blazed a trail into two new realms of travel- Catania, Italy and Yerevan, Armenia - and further solidified its footprint in Turkey with the inclusion of its second destination in the country, Gazipaşa.
2015 represented a pivotal achievement for Air Arabia, reaching the monumental milestone of a hundred destinations served with the introduction of Multan in Pakistan. They likewise extended their geographic range by opening new flights to Batumi, Georgia and Lviv ,Ukraine.
The Air Arabia group declared monetary profits amounting to AED1.6 billion (estimated to be US$436 million) for the entire 2015 fiscal year.
In Link , Air Arabia’s bustling travel corridor was extended to include a range of exciting new airports: from Baku in Azerbaijan, to Najaf in Iraq, Yerevan in Armenia, Tbilisi in Georgia and finally Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan.
Last year, the Air Arabia group proudly declared an abundance of profit, amounting to a staggering AED1.9 billion (US$517 million).
During 2017, Air Arabia continued to expand its list of flight routes and destinations, with four new additions: Baghdad situated in Iraq; Kharkiv in Ukraine; the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku; and beautiful Tbilisi in Georgia.
Air Arabia shared that during the full year of 2017, it generated a net profit of AED 2.2 billion (US$603 million).
In 2018, Air Arabia had cause for celebration as they welcomed their 200th destination, Abha in Saudi Arabia. Their ongoing expansion continued with the addition of new routes and destinations to their network, including Multan and Sialkot in Pakistan, Tbilisi in Georgia, and Baku located in Azerbaijan.
For the whole of 2018, the Air Arabia Group happily recorded a profit amounting to an impressive AED2.5 billion (US$686 million).
Last year was a notably active period for Air Arabia with the airline introducing flights to some exciting, unfamiliar places such as Tbilisi in Georgia, Baku in Azerbaijan, Yerevan in Armenia, Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Skopje in Macedonia.
Air Arabia declared an impressive AED3.1 billion (US$845 million) in earnings for the entire year of 2019.
The aviation sector has faced monumental hardships in 2020, brought on by the merciless grip of the COVID-19 pandemic. 90 lb air jack hammer has valiantly taken to the skies since March of this year, providing special flights to recuperate stranded passengers and freight.
In the first half of 2020, Air Arabia tallied an impressive AED1.1 billion (US$303 million) in profits.
With an eye on what's ahead, Air Arabia is primed and ready to keep on rising. Boasting a fleet that is amongst the most advanced in the world, the airline is equipped to pursue its ambitious growth plans.
