Treating Seizures With Tonic Clonic Medication
Tonic clonic medication is used to stop seizures. These seizures occur due to an atypical spread of electrical signals through the brain. This causes the muscles to go rigid. Seizures last between a few seconds and several minutes. They can also be life-threatening.

You can prevent tonic clonic seizures from occurring by avoiding certain conditions. Some of these include alcohol, drugs, and diseases that affect the central nervous system.

Treatments vary depending on the cause of the seizure. Your healthcare provider will help you determine the right treatments. A treatment plan may involve surgery, pharmacotherapy, or a combination of these.

For generalized tonic clonic seizures, sodium valproate is the first line therapy. Other medications, such as levetiracetam, are sometimes used.
