The Castle Theatre in Bloomington's downtown was packed to the rafters for starset Hats' Tuesday night performance. This concept band stretches the boundaries of music, telling a story based on a society from space in order to deliver a specific message. Dustin Bates is both an engineer, and an astronomy enthusiast. He has created an Augmented Reality band that uses music and video to tell the story. Bates' band consists of Bates along with Ron DeChant as bassist, Brock Richards as guitarist, Adam Gilbert on drums, Zuzana Engererova playing cello, and Adam Gilbert at drummer.
The crowd went ballistic when the band opened the show with "My Demons". The band then went slower with "Halo", "Antigravity", "Killing Floor" and other songs. But the fans continued to react by jumping and pumping fists. learn more raised their lighters.
The band held an eat-and greet with fans before the show. They ate together and talked to their fans. They were able sell out the small venue because of this and their catchy sounds. Starset performs a show with a high level of production that is unmatched by any other band.
