In the Clone Wars Captain Rex was the head of his 501st Legion. The built-in helmet is a reflection of Captain Rex's uniform at that time. It has blue accent colors, and Rex’s trademark hawk-eye pattern on both sides. Also, there are tally marks on either side, although Rex affirms that he doesn't keep track of the kills.
