This epiphyte, also known as Mexican breadfruit, split leaf philodendron or Ceriman, is native to the southern Mexican rainforests of the south. It thrives best when it has a bit of space as well as indirect light and a place to grow. It is interesting to note that a large mature Monstera plant may produce fruit that is said to taste like the taste of a fruit salad or a combination of banana and pineapple.
This plant is a climber, which means it will do well in a pot that has holes for drainage or a Trellis. To encourage this, loosely connect the main stem to an moss stick or sturdy pole. This is akin to its natural habitat, where it evolved by climbing mossy trees and other structures.
Swiss cheese plants thrive in indirect, bright light. They don't need to be watered regularly however, they should be kept in good condition. Water the plant only when the top inch or two of soil feels dry. You can feed your plant with a balanced liquid fertiliser every month by feeding it diluted mixes to promote faster growth.
