10 Facts About Easy House Plants That Insists On Putting You In An Optimistic Mood
Easy House Plants

If you've jumped on the houseplant bandwagon several years ago or are searching for new greenery to fill your living space There are plenty of plants that are easy to cultivate. These simple houseplants don't have to worry about their environment or how much water they get and can come back after a bit of neglect.

Spider plants, for example prefer direct sunlight that is bright and intense. They only require watering when the top a few inches are dry. Peace lilies are a different option that is low-key and have a pretty pattern on their leaves.

Ponytail Palm

The tropical succulent called the ponytail palm (Beaucarnea Recurvata) is simple to maintain. It doesn't require much water or attention, which makes it an ideal choice for those with a hectic life.

Plant the plant near large windows that are unobstructed or in a location with moderate light. Avoid cold, drafty areas and hot windows as they could dry out the foliage.

During the growth period it is recommended to water only when the soil is dry to the point of contact. The ponytail palm should be watered during winter is not recommended. The plant will be in a dormant state. When watering, use unique house plants to help keep the plant from being overwatered.

Ponytail palms grow slowly and don't need to be pruned unless they are sick. They are tolerant of drought and can tolerate short periods of colder temperatures however, they must be moved to a brighter room during winter. Fertilize your plants several times per year, in the spring and summer. Use a general plant fertilizer and follow the directions of the manufacturer.

Schefflera

The schefflera is among the most commonly used tropical house plants . It is also known as an umbrella plant or the philodendron. It grows up to 4-6 feet high indoors, and has bright indirect light.

The schrefflera can tolerate moderate to warm room temperatures, but it does not like cold breezes and can protest by dropping leaves. It needs a peat moss-based potter's soil, and should be fed monthly with a water-soluble fertilizer for houseplants.

If your schefflera is swollen, you may need to buy a new pot. It thrives in a container that is a size or two bigger than the one it is currently in. This will encourage growth that is bushy. Pinched the tips of growth to encourage the branching.

The schefflera is susceptible to spider mites. Spraying the leaves with Neem oil or insecticidal soap will usually eliminate the mites. It is also susceptible to thrips. However, washing the insects with a damp cloth and spotting them will be enough.

Chinese Evergreen

The aglaonema or Chinese evergreen is among the easiest house plants to grow. It is tolerant of a wide range of indoor conditions, from low light, to bright spots and fluorescent lighting. It also is intolerant of cold temperatures, but prefers warm temperatures.

These hardy plants that grow slowly thrive in well-drained potting soil that is rich in humus. Add peat moss or peat moss for better drainage and aid in acidifying the soil. In the summer, you should water your aglaonema regularly but allow the top inch or two of soil dry out between waterings.

If your aglaonema becomes leggy or sparse, it's a sign that it requires more light or is pot-bound. Repot it into a pot one size larger, untangle any tangled roots and add fresh potting mix. It is possible to spray the plant with soapy water or Neem oil if it's suffering from insect infestations. There are dozens of cultivars to pick from that include solid green varieties like Aglaonema 'Frasher' and Aglaonema "Pseudobracteatum" and other variegated varieties such as Aglaonema 'Silver Bay' and Aglaonema Stripes.

Calathea

This is a very easy houseplant to maintain as compared to its siblings whitestar, calathea ornata, and calathea which can be a bit fussy. The pin-striped leaves of Calathea can grow to over a foot in height and are stunning when illuminated by indirect bright light.

Calatheas need slightly moist soil but never wet or soggy. If the soil feels dry to your fingertips, water the plant thoroughly. A typical schedule for watering is to do it every two days, but you should you should check the soil each day to establish an established routine. If the potting mix isn't up to scratch substitute it with a drainage mix consisting of one part peat and one perlite or coco coir. Feed the calatheas twice per month during Spring and Summer with a fertilizer for houseplants that is diluted to half strength.

Leaves that curl or droop are a sign of dehydration and can be treated with a day or two of additional water. The leaves' discoloration is usually caused by insects and can be treated with insecticidal soap or oil.

Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia is a simple-to-care-for plant that can add an element of color to your home. The oblong leaves have different patterns of yellow, white and different shades of green. It can reach 12 inches or more.

Dieffenbachias, like other plants, are affected by certain conditions that may affect their appearance and health. The tips of the leaves that are brown can indicate low humidity, while yellow leaves can result from the overwatering or underwatering. Inconsistently watering or the use of hard tap water may also cause issues.

If your Dieffenbachia begins to lose its shape, try moving it into an area that is brighter. Drooping plants are usually a sign that they need more water, so test the soil water content by sticking your finger into it until the first knuckle. Water the soil until excess runs from the drainage holes, and do it by soaking it in a long way rather than a shallow sprinkle. Plastic nursery planters are the ideal container for your Dieffenbachia as they let water drain more efficiently than porous Terracotta.

Peperomia

The peperomia is a simple to maintain house plant that's suitable for nearly every room in your home. Its dark green, shiny leaves are very attractive and it also helps to cleanse the air.

Peperomias enjoy moderate light and warm temperatures, but not direct sun. If the leaves are scalding or discolored it is a sign they're receiving too much sunlight and should be relocated into a shadier area.

As their wild counterparts do Peperomias are epiphytic plants that attach themselves to branches of trees and other tall structures to get brighter, more indirect sunlight. They do best in well-draining soil that dries out between waterings. If you find that the peperomia's roots are extending out of the pot It's time to repot. Use a standard house plant mix that's free of peat, and set it up in a container one bigger than the one currently in use to prevent root rot. Feed your peperomia every month in the summer months with general fertilizer for houseplants.

Arrowhead Vine

The arrowhead vine (Syngoniumpodophyllum) is one of the tropical vines that can be grown indoors, is a lush climbing plant. It is a good houseplant for beginners, as it is easy to propagate.

To cut a piece of an existing arrowhead, find a healthy stem and carefully cut it at the bottom of the petiole. This job is best done with sterile, clean, sharp hand pruning shears.

Water your arrowhead often especially in the summer. Make sure you allow the soil to dry between waterings, as the arrowhead plant is not a fan of wet soil. Winter is the only time they don't require fertilizer as the plant is dormant. This plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause a burning sensation when ingested, so it's important to keep it out of reach of children and pets. Also known as goosefoot, nephthytis or philodendron, arrowhead vine is a favorite of gardeners who want to enjoy its vibrant foliage and low-maintenance.

Snake Plant

Snake plants (also called Sansevieria) are among the easiest houseplants to cultivate. They thrive in areas with low light, drought and have a few insect problems. The plant can also be used to purify the air in your house. It converts CO2 into oxygen at daytime and removes formaldehyde, benzene, and formaldehyde in the evening.

Snake plants that are healthy have green leaves with yellow, cream or white edges. Leaves that drop or roll over suggest excessive watering, lack of light, Thrips (small insects) or root decay.

Repot your snake plants in containers that are two inches larger if the roots become overcrowded or if they grow out of its pot. Choose an area that drains quickly, and preferably with one third sand or perlite and one third peat. Fertilize your plants monthly with a liquid fertiliser at half strength throughout the growing season.

Money Plant

Money plants are easy to grow and considered as a lucky plant that can bring prosperity to those who take care of them. They also help to channel positive energy. You can gift them to your friends and are an excellent way to wish them prosperity and wealth. These plants are believed to grow best in the southeast direction of your home, according to Vastu and Feng Shui.

Money Plants aren't just an excellent air purifier but they also tolerate less than ideal indoor conditions. However, it is recommended to keep track of the plant's fertilization and watering needs regularly. If the leaves are turning yellow, this could be a sign the soil is not draining properly or that the plant has been irrigated too much.

The most typical indicators of a healthy Money Plant are green leaves and long stems with light brown tips. It's a low-maintenance plant for the home that doesn't need much sun or fertilizer.
