Better Call Saul Blanket
If it's a broken Hello Kitty cell phone or a tie and orange shirt the details that populate Better Call Saul are all but certain to attract attention. This approach has played a major role in the series' success and something that viewers should trust for the remainder of its run.


Better Call Saul has gotten lots of drama out of the few lines of dialogue that were dropped in Breaking Bad's latest episode, Blanket. The fact that this show was able to create so much drama out of these references shows the attention to detail the prequel strives to achieve, not just as Easter eggs that look like visuals, but also as narrative tools.


It is a tale of transformation. Jimmy McGill starts this episode with the same egocentric greed as Saul Goodman and the same desperate need to get free that led him to Gene Takovic. He leaves the show as a more true self even in the event that he is forced to make a complete account for his crimes but knowing it will not save him.


The most significant aspect of this change is the fact that it's a process. Rather than settling for the one-note sleazy lawyer caricature that Breaking Bad presented, Better Call Saul is a multi-layered film that focuses on character development, allowing us discover the depths of a man who's constantly seeking out self-preservation and money. It was incredibly moving to witness him finally admitting his wrongdoing and acknowledge that the man he was so good as we believed.


This episode marked a turning point for the show, and it gave audiences an opportunity to reflect on what we've seen over the first three seasons. The writers, especially co-creator Vince Gilligan and acclaimed director Peter Gould, have taken the basic narrative principle of telling-not-telling to an unprecedented level. The writers' focus on detail in everything from background artwork, to the clothing, to the recurring quotes has never felt as fan culture Easter Eggs but more like literary devices.



The gangland side of Better Call Saul has always existed in a different world distinct from the rest, but this aspect of the show has now appeared to be threatening to swallow the entire thing. Kim Wexler's life story is now revealed, and it is clear that the remaining episodes of Better Call Saul will not be slowing down. Better Call Saul Merch will continue to investigate the emotional journeys the main character takes in a way that is just as stunning as those courtroom scenes of the initial season.



This is an indication of this show's power and will continue to be worthwhile to watch until 2022.
