17 Reasons Not To Avoid House Plant
Easy House Plants

A slender monstera with its shiny leaves and modern pot adds a striking touch to a corner. It's undemanding and happy to be rooted which means it doesn't require repotting.

It is crucial to ensure that plants are in harmony with conditions of light. Avoid potted house plants with drooping foliage or soil that is wet or has soft roots since they could be unsalvageable and could harbour disease.

Pothos

Pothos is also often referred to as Devil's Ivy and Rapunzel Plant. It's one of the easiest plants to take care of. It thrives in dim to bright indirect light and is ideal to fill in dark spots in a room. It's tolerant of all conditions and will even tolerate direct sunlight if it's not prolonged. If it's exposed to too much sun, it can become leggy and lose its variation.

Pothos can be propagated from the stem cutting. Simply cut a length of the vine and then cut a couple of leaves down to about 2"-3". Place it in a pot with water. It will start growing roots quickly. It is important to change the water regularly at least every two weeks. It can be placed in either potting or water soil, and will do well in both. Once the root system has been established (usually within four weeks) it is possible to transfer it into a pot with regular pots of soil for your houseplants.

Like all plants, Pothos needs good general fertilizer for your houseplant to ensure its health. However, it doesn't require fertilization like other houseplants. A feeding every month during spring and summer months should be sufficient.

Pothos leaves can become brown and shriveled when placed in drafty or near radiators. If this happens, move it in a brighter part of the house and then fertilize it again as usual.

A Pothos' leaves will tell you whether it needs to be watered. If the edges of the leaves are brown and dry, it's time to drink it. If the leaves begin to shrink then it's time to water.

Epipremnum aureum (Pothos) is available in a variety of cultivars with heart-shaped leaves which vary from green to white and yellow. The most popular varieties are "Marble Queen" which has striking white and green variation. Another variety that is popular is "Neon," which has green leaves that have yellow and red markings.

The life expectancy of Pothos is about five to 10 years, but providing it the right conditions and routine maintenance, it could prolong its life significantly. It is also easy to propagate, making it a great choice for beginners.

Monstera

Monstera Deliciosa is also known as the Swiss cheese plant or split-leaf Philodendron. It is a common indoor houseplant found in temperate climates. It can also be grown outside in warmer climates and is a well-loved landscaping plant. It is a moderately greedy grower, needing only to be watered once or twice a week to keep the soil moist.

The monstera, a species of the Dracaena family is named for its bizarre-looking leaves, which have an odd pattern of holes. It looks like Swiss cheese. tall house plants and lobes are scientifically referred to as fenestrations. They appear on the leaves as they mature. In the wild, Monstera deliciosa produces fruit. However, it's difficult to make this plant produce fruit in an indoor setting.

Unlike most succulents, Monsteras do not thrive in cold temperatures and will not survive if left outside for more than just a few hours. They prefer tropical temperatures that are like their native rainforest habitats. This makes them a good choice for a conservatory, or any other sunny spot which is cool enough to stay clear of frost and freezing.

Monsteras are a vine plant that make use of aerial roots to climb up the soil. In the wild, they usually attach themselves to trees or rocks after they have grown along the forest floor for a while. This natural habit is the reason many gardeners add a tree or moss poles to their pots when the plant develops.

The moss rod, which is constructed from chicken wire or long-stranded sphagnum, will support the plants and let them climb up, instead of out of their pots. The pole can also help repel pests like sap-sucking aphids, mealybugs, and tiny cigar shaped thrips that can damage the leaves of the plant.

Repot the plant regularly and ensure it has plenty of indirect bright sunlight. It can take some direct light, but it should not be placed in harsh sunlight from dawn to dusk. If exposed to the sun, monstera will burn its leaves and even die.

ZZ Plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia also known as the ZZ plant has made quite a splash when it first appeared on the market, and is one of the easiest house plants to maintain. It's an excellent choice for dark spots in the home that many other plants can't thrive in, as it will thrive in any light conditions other than direct sunlight. ZZ plants can reach the height of one meter, which means they are best suited to larger pots and plant stands.

The ZZ plant's biggest disadvantage is that it's poisonous when consumed, so make sure it stays away from pets who are nipping and children. Use gloves when handling the plant as it could cause irritation to your skin. It is rumored to cause cancer, but this hasn't been proved.

ZZ plants, as with all succulents are easy to grow and maintain. They don't require a lot of water, however they must be watered thoroughly and the soil must dry between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot, so it's better to be on the safe side and avoid watering.

They are best suited to an adsorbent, free-draining potting mix that includes perlite or sand for better drainage. best houseplants is not quick to grow and can be kept in the same pot for a long time. However, they will need to have their roots replanted when they begin to poke through the soil.

Fertilize during the growing season with a half-strength diluted liquid fertilizer. In the warmer months, this is typically performed once or twice per month.

Like all indoor plants, check for insects like Aphids regularly. Check for spindly stems that are long and leggy, and spots of yellow on the leaves (see photo above). The leaves are also susceptible to mold and rot so don't overlook these signs and let them get out of hand.

They require a bit of humidity, but they are fine at most house temperatures. The leaves will remain dust-free when you regularly mist them. This is not just for aesthetic purposes but also to aid them in their function as air purifying plants.

Kentia Palm

The kentia (Howea) palm is a stunning and simple to care for plant. It has been a popular houseplant in a variety of homes of the aristocratic and royal families since Victorian times. This is because of its ability to thrive in harsh conditions, such as the lack of sunlight exposure, air conditioning and central heating. tall house plants 's also pretty intolerant of neglect, making it a great choice for beginners to garden.

Kentias prefer bright, indirect light and can accept a bit of shade however, it is recommended to keep them away from direct sunlight since this could cause scorching of the leaves. They also dislike draughty spots so don't place them near windows that are frequently opened and closed.

The kentia requires a soil mixture that is rich in nutrients and drains well. To achieve this, a combination of peat moss, perlite and pot soil can be used to create an ideal planting medium. Plant your kentia palm in a pot that has drainage holes. Water thoroughly whenever the top ten centimetres of compost are dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot. It's also best to let the soil dry a bit before watering again.

You can prune the fronds on your kentia palm to maintain its shape, and also remove dead leaves when they appear. However, pruning needs to be done with care as removing too many fronds can harm the trunk of the plant and leave it open to disease. If you decide to trim using shears, ensure that they have a smooth cutting surfaces and remove the leaf bases from their base instead of removing them. This can leave permanent scars.

A kentia is susceptible to a variety of pests, including mealybugs, spider mites and scale insects. Dusting the fronds regularly with a sponge or cloth can help to prevent this issue. If they do occur, spray the plant with insecticidal oil or soap.
