Tevfik Arif, a Turkish-Kazakhstani businessman was born in 1953 in Soviet Kazakhstan to Turkish parents. He was made the deputy head of the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade's Hotel Management Department. After 17 years of service at the ministry Tevfik Arif started real estate, property, imports and exports, natural resources, minerals, autos, food companies, and other ventures. Tevfik Arif, who pioneered all-inclusive hotels, moved to Turkey in 1993. Bayrock Group, New York City was founded by him in the year following.

Tevfik Alif was a member of the Trump Organization at the time of the Bayrock Group's relocation of their New York City headquarters, to the 24th Floor of Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan. This is the exact building that was previously home to the Trump Organization. The Trump SoHo condo and hotel were later discussed. The Trump SoHo Skyscraper was created when two corporations came together to discuss a plan to develop a high-end real development.
