The Reasons To Focus On Making Improvements In Low Maintenance House Plants
Low Maintenance House Plants

A lot of house plants are temperamental, but there are plenty that require less attention. These low maintenance plants are ideal for lazy gardeners or those who have trouble keeping their greenery alive.

Lucky bamboo as well as the holiday cactus and peace lily are easy to cultivate. You just need to water it frequently and provide it with bright indirect light.

Calthea Ornata

Pinstripe Calathea has beautiful, subdued foliage which complements the brighter leaves on plants such as Arrowhead Vine or Chinese Evergreen. It can be used to create indoor landscapes for offices. These plants are safe for the environment and safe for pets, children as well as the environment.

This tropical plant needs moderate amounts of sunlight. It thrives in the sunlit windowsill, but must be kept out of direct sunlight as it could cause its leaves to burn. If you are worried about the sunlight in your home, try placing your calathea in the window and drape it with an opaque curtain to block the most intense rays.

This house plant also needs humidity. It can tolerate dry air but it will not thrive. To keep the humidity up make sure to mist the leaves of your calathea every week with water that is room temperature. You can also try putting your calathea in a room with high humidity levels such as the bathroom or kitchen.

While calathea orchida isn't the most fussy of houseplants but it does require some attention to ensure that it is healthy. It is not a heavy feeder however, you can apply a liquid houseplant fertilizer to its soil once or twice per month during the growing season. It is important to monitor your calathea for issues such as browning leaves, that can be caused by a variety of different causes.

Tillandsia

Tillandsia is an unusual houseplant that grows without soil. There are common houseplants than 540 varieties of pineapple plants or pineapple roses. They thrive in bright, filtered sunlight (not direct sunlight) and should be misted around every two weeks. When grown outside they can be quite hardy, but they do best indoors or in humid climates like Florida.

Tillandsia are perfect for people who travel, or forget to water their plants. They can be used to accent other plants in the house or placed in a beautiful manner and are great for using in terrariums.

In nature, tillandsia is an epiphyte-they are non-parasitic and attach themselves to rocks, trees and other plants to obtain water and nutrients. The process of CAM photosynthesis also allows to exchange gases at night and breathe. This is different than most other plants that breathe through their leaves during the day. Tillandsiaxerographica has serpentine leaves that curve in different directions. It is covered in trichomes which gives the foliage a soft silver color. The species is native to Guatemala, Mexico El Salvador and Honduras. It is commonly utilized in terrariums, or attached to a piece of driftwood.

Orchids

Orchids can be a bit intimidating for those who are new to growing. However, with a little research and attention they can add elegance to any space. Moth orchids (Phalaenopsis) are the most commonly used and are ideal for our homes that are centrally heated, producing stunning blooms that last longer than cut flowers.

Orchids come in a range of shapes, sizes, and colors. Their petals are often speckled while their stems sway above clumps of long arching leaves. You can find them everywhere in mountains, forests, and deserts.

Some orchids thrive in bright light, while others do well with dim or moderate lighting. It is crucial to provide enough light for the plants to flower, regardless of their species. Insufficient light is the most common reason orchids do not produce flowers. Bright indirect sunlight is best for most orchids, but direct sunlight can cause burns to the leaves. To prevent this, put your orchid behind blinds or curtains that let light pass through.

Watering orchids is extremely important. Sprinkle the plants with warm water once or twice a week during winter, and up to three times per week during warmer months. This will flush out any salts naturally occurring and ensure that the roots remain damp. Fertilize indoor house plants during growth, and once a week during dormancy. Use a commercial fertilizer for orchids, such as 30-10-10, diluted until half strength.

Peace Lily

Peace lilies can be a wonderful addition to any home as they purify the air. They are able to absorb harmful gases and VOCs like benzene and xylene. They are easy to cultivate and require only minimal maintenance. They can also be used to decorate due to their gorgeous and stunning green leaves.

When growing Peace Lilies indoors, they prefer bright indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves of Peace Lilies. They can be planted near heat or air conditioning vents however, not directly in front, as this can cause the leaves to fade.

Water Peace Lilies frequently, leaving the soil to dry out for some inches before watering again. The plant may droop in the event that it is thirsty.

Fertilize your houseplants once a month with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Follow the recommended fertilization schedule and dilution schedule. Over-fertilizing your plant can lead to excessive growth of the foliage at the expense or the flowers.

Another benefit of Peace Lilies is that they can reduce the growth of mildew on curtains and walls by absorbing excess moisture in the air. This is especially useful in kitchens, bathrooms, and washrooms, where mildew can cause problems. The plant can also aid in reducing the amount of alcohol and acetone that are in a space which could be dangerous to the health of anyone who is exposed to them.

Anthurium

This popular houseplant is a stunning addition to any home. Its long, bright flowers symbolize friendship and love that lasts. NASA has also rated it as the top air purifying plant. Anthurium is an epiphyte that grows on trees and other plants. It is also able to adapt to a potted. Repot it with coco coir or peat soil mix regularly and keep it in bright indirect sunlight. Water it when the soil is 50-75 percent dry and mist it frequently (but be careful not to overwater it).

Anthuriums are propagated either by stem cuttings or seeds. Stem cuttings are recommended as seeds will only be viable for a limited time. To do this, you need to cut off a piece of the plant that is at least 1 inch in length and wrap it in sphagnum. Place it in a pot with some moisture and cover the container with plastic wrap to aid in germination. When the roots are visible, remove the sphagnum and cut off the stem near the node. Place it in a potting mix to encourage aroids.

During the growing season, fertilize anthuriums with liquid plant food that is half strength every other week. Anthuriums can rot when they are fertilized too much. Beware of pests that attract insects such as spider mites, scale insects and mealy bugs.

Spider Plant

Spider plants are a fantastic choice for indoor gardens, as they can thrive in conditions of low light and do not require direct sunlight. indoor house plants are non-toxic, simple to care for and perfect for homes that have pets or children who are young. Spider plants also remove harmful chemicals and toxins out of the air. This makes them an excellent accessory for people suffering from allergies.

As opposed to common houseplants require moderate amounts of fertilization and water. It should be kept in bright, warm indirect sunlight as direct sunlight can burn the leaves. To encourage growth, soil should drain well and not get soggy. Fertilize frequently with a top-quality houseplant potting mix.

When the plant reaches the desired height, it should be repositioned. To do this, gently tease the roots and find areas with a good amount of root growth. Then, place the plant in a new pot and fill it up with well-drained potting mix for houseplants. Then, water the new container right away and continue to do so until the plant is established.

In the winter months indoor plants could be extremely dry. They may need to mist to increase humidity. This can be achieved by putting your plants in a moist area like a bathroom or kitchen or running a humidifier or putting the plants together. Brown leaves on the spider plant are an indication that the soil is overor under water and you should be sure to check the moisture levels regularly.
