Eternal Flame
When a flame burns bright the darkness diminishes.
There are a variety of eternal flames that are created by humans and tended to serve as memorials. However there are also eternal flames found in nature, such as Eternal Flame Falls in Shale Creek Preserve, located in western New York. This is a small waterfall with an underground grotto that is located at the base. The rock constantly produces flammable gas.
Scientists are puzzled by the mechanism behind this However, they believe that the grotto's formation is a result of a hot, old bedrock that is made of shale. The extreme temperatures of the rock cause carbon molecules to break down, releasing gas. The same process in geology can cause coal seam fires and peat fires that are able to burn for a long time. The New York flame, however is nearly perpetual.
