Why You Should Focus On Improving Easy Houseplants
Easy Houseplants That Don't Require a Green Thumb

Looking to add a touch of green to your home? These easy houseplants do not require you to be a gardener.

These low-maintenance plants require little more than a few hours of indirect light that is bright as well as a clean of the leaves every couple of months, and a tiny amount of iron fertilizer.

Ponytail Palm

The ponytail palms are distinctive plants which look fantastic in various interior designs. They are easy to take care of and can thrive with a little neglect, as long as you don't overwater them. This houseplant that grows slowly is a great option for people who are just beginning to plant.

Pony tail palms are tropical-looking plant that thrives in bright indirect light. They are also drought tolerant and thrive in warm temperatures. They can be planted in their nursery containers but should be transplanted into an open-topped pot, since this improves air circulation and reduces the risk of root rot.

This low-maintenance houseplant is nontoxic to dogs, cats and horses, which makes it a perfect choice for homes with pets or small children. It also serves as an effective deterrent to dust mites and other insects. However, it is susceptible to diseases such as leaf streaks and bacterial spots that are usually exacerbated by high humidity.

The plant is slow-growing and requires minimal fertilization It can be fed monthly in the spring and summer months with a balanced water-soluble plant food, at half the recommended dose on the label. Sometimes, the plant forms offsets ("pups") close to the base that can be removed and planted in a separate area to propagate the ponytail palm tree. The plant doesn't bloom indoors, despite the name. It is therefore difficult to produce viable seeds. In winter, brown leaf tips are quite common and need to be cut back to maintain a healthy appearance.

Schefflera

The schefflera (pronounced shuffler-uh) is among the most easy houseplants to take care of. This tropical plant is called the umbrella-shaped plant. It has green, splayed, umbrella-shaped leaves. The plants are able to grow quickly in optimum conditions and can be cut to fit the space. They also help clean the air which makes them one of the top options for indoor tropical plants.

Like other tropical plants, schefflera requires bright indirect light to thrive. They can tolerate direct sunlight for a few minutes, but too much will harm their foliage. If you don't have enough lighting in your home, add a high-output lamp. You can also position your schefflera near a window which receives morning or late afternoon sun and filter the light using curtains.

When watering a schefflera, ensure that you only water when the soil is dry at the surface. Overwatering can lead to root rot. If you notice leaves that are yellow or a drooping appearance, this could be a sign that the plant is not receiving enough moisture.

You can add more scheffleras by harvesting 6-inch stem cuttings in the summer. Place the cuttings between 2 and 1 inch deep in a container containing Miracle-Gro Indoor Potting Mix. Then, provide the basic care to encourage new growth.

Chinese Evergreen

Aglaonema, commonly called Chinese evergreen is a simple houseplant that can withstand just about any indoor condition. In contrast to peace lilies and philodendrons which require a lot of bright light, aglaonema can grow in dim or medium-light conditions. It is a great choice for fluorescent lighting. Aglaonema is slow-growing, and will initially be small enough to fit on desks and tabletops, but it will eventually become a floor plant.

house plants common can choose from a variety colors and patterns for Glaonema foliage. Aglaonema Lucky Red has leaves with a green and hot pink hue, while 'Siam Aurora" has dark green leaves with pink veins.

Aglaonema plants are tolerant of brighter indoor light conditions. However, the more colorful and varied varieties may require a little more brightness. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight, as the sun's harsh rays can cause the leaves to burn. If you're growing an Aglaonema in a space that gets lots of natural light then cover the window with a sheer curtain to block out harsh sunlight.

Like other tropical plants that don't require any effort, Aglaonema thrives in warmer temperatures but can't survive extreme cold breezes. It is recommended to water it regularly but be careful not to overwater it. Put your finger in the soil to determine when you should water. If it feels dry, it is time to add more moisture.

Calathea

Calathea is also called Goeppertia or Pinstripe plant, is an exotic foliage plant that is simple to cultivate indoors. It is native to dense forests and rainforests, where it grows in shady places under trees, making it able to tolerate bright indirect light inside. However, it is crucial to ensure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight since it could cause burns to the leaves and cause the markings fade. The best way to avoid this is to move it around or protect it from direct sunlight which can be done by covering a windowsill a sheer curtain.

Calatheas are tolerant of temperatures ranging from 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and thrive in humid environments. They prefer shaded sun because they're accustomed to dapples, not constant sunlight. This is the reason facing west or south a window may work well for them, however it is essential to keep it shaded from direct sunlight.

If a calathea is in its ideal environment it can be thriving with a basic watering schedule. It is recommended to water it regularly however it isn't necessary to keep the soil damp. Instead, a good method of determining when to water is to put your finger in the soil and if it feels dry, it's time to be watered. In the spring and summer you can also apply a diluted fertiliser.

Pothos

Pothos, also known as Epipremnum Aureum, is an exotic houseplant that is easy to care for due to its trailing foliage. It is a very popular option for hanging baskets as well as macrame planters but can be trained to climb up a trellis or up the wall. This fast-growing vine is very resistant to the elements and makes a great option for novices or experienced indoor gardeners.

The leaves of Pothos come in various colors and patterns. A few popular cultivars include 'Golden Pothos, with a green and yellow variegation; 'Neon' with bright chartreuse leaves and 'Marble Queen', which is gorgeously marbled with white. Pothos is easily propagated using stem cuttings that can be cultivated in water or soil. To root a stem cut a 4-6 inch length of a healthy looking stem, with a few attached leaves, and then just below the leaf node. Place the cutting into the glass, which is filled with water or perlite/vermiculite that has been moistened. Within some weeks, roots should appear. The rooted cutting can be placed in the container in a small size with the potting soil.

Pothos plants will tolerate low lighting conditions, but prefer bright indirect light. It is important to water when the potting mix is dry. Feed it with a liquid fertilizer for houseplants once every six to eight weeks. Avoid cold breezes as they could damage the leaves and slow the growth. If the Pothos plants are pot-bound, remove the old potting soil and repot the roots in fresh soil.

Peperomia

Peperomia plants are a great choice for novices because they perform well with little or no care, and it is easy to grow as an indoor plant. They are native to South America and love shaded areas, but do not require direct sunlight. They also prefer warm temperatures.

Peperomia is available in a variety of shapes and colors. Certain varieties come with intriguing variations. Peperomia arryreia is also referred to as the watermelon peperomia is named because its leaves resemble the rind of a watermelon. Other types that are well-known include P. caperata with its deeply quilted, crinkly leaves and P. polybotrya with its large, drop-shaped, leaves.

Peperomias are propagated by cuttings of the stem, or leaf-petiole cuts. It is recommended to choose mature plants that do not have buds or flowers. Cut a stem of the plant using the lower 3 4''-4'' of leaves and remove any leaves below the leaf node that is the lowest.

Plant peperomias using a rich potting soil or a mixture that is nutrient-rich. The plants don't require fertilizer, however a light dose of fertilizer along the plant's edge can be beneficial every once or twice each month. Peperomias that are watered should be handled with caution as they can turn excessively swollen if they are overwatered. It is best to allow the soil to dry before watering it again.
