The tropical foliage, also referred to as hole-leaf monstera, provides any space an exotic ambiance. Bird of paradise flowers with their distinctive slim blue or orange flowers are another exotic option.

Monstera

Monstera deliciosa or Swiss Cheese Plant is a unique houseplant with large leaves. It adds a tropical feel to your home. It is climber-friendly and can be trained up moss cover poles indoors to resemble the trees it is clings to in its native Mexican and Central American habitat. It can also be grown in a pot or suspended over the edge of a table or even on a surface.

In addition to its unique appearance This tropical plant is easy to grow. It requires direct, bright sunlight and well-drained soil. It's also tolerant of low humidity levels however, it will be most effective when humidity levels are higher.

The name of the plant suggests that this plant is famous for the splits and holes it shows on its leaves. common house plant are known as fenestrations and they are visible as the plant matures. It is part of the Araceae plant family that includes Pothos, Philodendrons and ZZ plants, as well as many others.

As with other aroids Monstera is quite tolerant in its development and can be grown as an indoor or outdoor plant. It can even be grown in dappled shade, which is typical of its forest understory habitat.

The flowers of the plant appear like an ear of corn. It produces a delicious fruit, that has been described as a mix of banana and pineapple. You can consume raw or cooked. It is important to know that the fruit of this plant can be laxative which is why moderation is important.

This tropical plant is able to tolerate frigid temperatures, which makes it a unique. Many other aroids turn to mush in very cold temperatures, but Monsteras can still grow and flourish.

Like all aroids, Monstera requires watering sparingly and only when the top inch of soil is dry. When indoor house plants , make sure to let the excess water drain out through the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. Also, like most tropical house plants, Monstera requires a balanced liquid fertilizer. Dilute 1/2 teaspoon of a balanced 20-20-20 liquid plant food in a gallon of water and feed your plant every few weeks throughout the growing season.

Begonia

Begonias bring a splash of color to window boxes, flower pots and garden beds. They are easy to grow and are tropical treasures. Begonias are available in vibrant shapes and colors that match your style, no matter if you select either a single or double-flowered variety. Begonias are a great alternative to other exotic houseplants because they bloom continuously throughout the growing season. They require no special care, besides watering every two weeks.

More than 2,000 species of plants belong to the genus Begonia, with the majority having vibrant flowers and leaves. They are mostly native to the tropics, but some can be grown in cooler climates.

Tuberous begonias such as the popular "Non-Stop" series are ideal for shady areas and outdoor containers. These frost-sensitive plants develop from round, firm or oval tubers that have either an upright or slender growth habit (for containers for plants and flower boxes) or cascading tendencies (for hanging baskets). To flourish they require bright light with a little shade. However, they may not bloom in very dense shade or in areas that receive hot, direct sunlight. Wax begonias can withstand the heat of full sun, but they can quickly burn in hot weather.

Most begonias do not require deadheading, but they can benefit from autumn and spring pruning to stimulate new growth. They also thrive in loose, rich soil. This can be a mixture of organic material, or a light, loamy mix containing slow-release fertilizer.

If you'd like to grow begonias, plant tubers, with the hollow side up 6 to 8 inches apart in a shallow tray filled with moist potting mix. Keep indoor house plants , but not soaking, and place the tray in a dark room. The seeds should start to grow in about 4 weeks. They will then be moved to a location with bright light when they're about 1 inch tall. When ready to plant outdoors make sure there isn't any risk of frost. You can also start begonias by sown seeds or by planting wax begonias in transplants. They can be bought at garden centers and greenhouses.

Anthurium

Anthurium, also known as tail flower or flamingo flower It adds a exotic tropical addition to any brightly lit space. It's easy-to-care for and produces flowers all year round. Anthuriums, which were originally epiphytes that grow on the surface of plants, or in the air as well are durable and hardy house plants.

The "flower" of the anthurium is actually an actual spathe. This protective sheath covers an extremely tiny flower inside. The flowers are available in pink, orange-red or white, and last for several weeks. The colorful anthurium is popular as a hostess gift, and it's also often used in wedding bouquets on Hawaiian and Pacific Islands.

Anthurium is a member of the large genus Araceae which includes more than 1,000 species of flowering plants. Certain species are well-known like the orchid, hibiscus and poinsettia. Some are less well-known, such as the arum tree and tulip tree.

Anthuriums can be planted from seeds but it may take up to 4 years before you see any flowers. You can see faster results by cutting anthuriums off of mature plants. Find an established anthurium with roots that are compacted and appear ready to be divided. Use a clean, dry knife to cut off a section of the plant. Be cautious not to damage the roots.

Anthurium freshly cut can be transplanted into an uncooked pot of slightly moist vermiculite. Place the cutting in a spot that stays around 70F and is exposed to bright, indirect light. Mist the soil and plant frequently, and then run an air humidifier close to it to increase the humidity as needed. Give the anthurium regular fertilizer, though don't apply too much as it can burn the roots.

Repot anthuriums every two years or when the root ball is too large for the pot. To avoid shock, select the pot that is 20% larger than its current container.

If the leaves of your anthurium lose their shiny luster then spray a bit of natural soap in a diluted form on the leaves and wipe it with a damp cloth. This aids the plant in breathing and restores its lovely sheen. Anthuriums are susceptible to spider mites, but a preventative pesticide can keep these tiny pests at bay.

Coconut Palm

Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is a tropical plant cultivated extensively around the world for its edible fruit. It is among the most important and widely spread agricultural plants in the tropics, and it is believed to have its origins in Indo-Malaya. The wood of the trunk can be used to build huts and bridges. The fibers of husks or shells are used to create ropes. The coconut is actually a drupe, and is not an nut.

When the seeds produce an audible sloshing noise when shaken, they are ready to be planted. The seeds are then placed on their sides with three eyes slightly angled upwards and then dug into the soil to about half the thickness of the hard shell. Germination takes a long time however it can be accelerated by high temperatures and humidity and after six months, the shoots and roots are ready to be transplanted.

The plant thrives in warmer climates and is not afraid of frost. However, it should not be exposed to extreme cold temperatures, as it can suffer damage. It requires plenty of sunshine as well as a protected location and a well-drained sandy soil. Watering is required regularly however, it must be kept moist, but not drained of water. Fertilizing is also essential, using a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content.

The palm produces sweet-smelling flower stalks in the spring. Female and male coconuts grow from these stalks. The flowers are aprotandrous and male flowers generally open before the females open. The flowers are pollinated by wind. After 4-6 years the tree will begin to bear fruit.

Indoors, it's best to grow the exotic houseplant in pots that are large and have drainage and rich soil. It prefers a sunny spot, but can tolerate low light. As it grows, repot the plant using a pot that is larger than the root ball. It is vital to water thoroughly and feed the plant regularly with liquid fertilizer. The Coconut Palm is generally pest-free however, it could be affected by a disease referred to as lethal yellowing, which there is no cure, and which often kills the plant.
