15 Up-And-Coming Exotic House Plants Bloggers You Need To Check Out
5 Exotic House Plants to Add a Taste of the Tropics to Your Home

Bring the flavor of the tropics into your home with these exotic house plants. Orchids, ferns, and palm trees are great exotic houseplants because they like warm temperatures and moderate humidity which is typical of indoor environments.

The tropical foliage, also referred to as hole-leaf monstera, gives any room an exotic look. Another exotic option is the bird of paradise flower with its slender, distinctive orange or blue flowers.

Monstera

Monstera Deliciciosa or Swiss Cheese Plant is a unique houseplant with large leaves. It adds an exotic look to your home. It is a climber and can be trained to cling to poles that are covered with moss, to resemble the trees in its native habitat of Mexico and Central America. potted house plants works well in pots and can be suspended over the edge of a table or other surface.

Apart from its distinctive appearance, this tropical plant is simple to cultivate. It needs bright, indirect sun and well-drained soil. It can also tolerate low levels of humidity however, it will be most effective with higher ones.

This plant is named for the holes and splits that it displays on its leaf. tall house plants are called fenestrations and they appear when the plant matures. It belongs to the Araceae plant family which includes Pothos, Philodendrons and ZZ plants, as well as many others.

Monstera, like other aroids, is an plant that can be grown indoors or outdoors. It can be cultivated in shades of dappled shade, which is characteristic of its understory forest habitat.

The flowers of the plant appear like an ear of ear corn. It produces a delicious fruit, which has been described as a mix of pineapple and banana. It is possible to eat them raw or cooked. It is important to remember that the fruits of this plant could be laxative which is why moderation is important.

This tropical plant can tolerate frigid temperatures, which makes it a unique. Most other aroids will quickly melt in extremely cold temperatures, but Monsteras can still grow and thrive.

As with most aroids Monstera must be watered sparingly and only when the top inch of soil is dry. Make sure that excess water drain away from the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot whenever you water. Additionally, like many tropical house plants, Monstera requires a balanced liquid fertilizer. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of a balanced 20-20-20 liquid plant food in one gallon of water, and use it to feed your plant every couple of weeks during the growing season.

Begonia

Begonias are easy to cultivate tropical treasures that add a burst of color to window boxes as well as flower pots and garden beds. Whether you choose single or double-flowered varieties there is a begonia with vibrant designs and colors that match your style. In contrast to other exotic house plants begonias bloom all through the growing season, requiring minimal attention beyond a couple of times a month watering.

More than 2,000 species of plants belong to the genus Begonia, with the majority having vibrant leaves and flowers. tall house plants are native to the tropics, however certain species can thrive in cooler climates.

Tuberous begonias, like the popular 'Non Stop' series, are a good choice for shaded spots and outdoor containers. These frost-sensitive plants develop from firm, round or oval tubers, with either an upright growth style (for planters and flower boxes) or cascading characteristics (for hanging baskets). They need full sun and some shade to grow well. However, they might not flower in very shade or in areas with direct sunlight that is hot and intense. Wax begonias are tolerant of full sun, but they can quickly burn in hot weather.

Most begonias are self-cleaning and don't require deadheading; however, they could benefit from trimming in the spring and fall to encourage fresh growth. They also thrive when planted in loose, rich soil, like a mix with some organic material or a light, loamy blend with slow-release fertilizer added.

If you want to reproduce begonias in a shallow tray, place the tubers, with the hollow side between 6 and 8 inches apart in a moist potting mix. Keep the mix moist, but not soggy, and place the tray in a dark space. The seeds should start to grow in about 4 weeks. They will then be moved to a spot that has bright light once they're about an inch tall. Wait until there is no chance of frost before planting outdoors. Alternatively, you can start begonias by seeding them or by planting begonias in wax. They can be bought in greenhouses and garden centers.

Anthurium

Anthuriums, also known as tail flowers or flamingo flowers provide a tropical feel to brightly lit rooms. It's easy to care for and blooms all year round. Anthuriums, originally epiphytes that are found on the surface of plants or in the air, too, are long-lasting and hardy house plants.

The anthurium's "flower" is actually a spathe, a sheath that covers a tiny real flower inside. The flowers are available in red, pink or white and last for some weeks. The vibrant anthurium is a favorite as a hostess's gift, and it's also often used in wedding bouquets on Hawaiian and Pacific Islands.

Anthurium is a part of the genus Araceae, which contains more than 1,000 species of flowering plants. Some are very familiar, such as the hibiscus, orchid and poinsettia. Some are less well-known, such as the arum tree and tulip tree.

Anthuriums can be grown from seeds, but it could take up to 4 years before you see any flowers. To get faster results it is possible to propagate anthuriums by cutting them off of mature plants. Look for an established anthurium that has compacted roots and appears ready to be divided. Use a dry, clean knife to cut off a portion of the plant. Be cautious not to damage the roots.

Anthurium freshly cut can be transferred to a pot of slightly damp vermiculite. Place the cut in a place that is kept at 70F and is exposed to bright, indirect light. Mist the soil and plant often, and run a humidifier near it to raise the humidity as needed. Don't over-fertilize the anthurium, as it will cause root burns.

Repot anthuriums every few years or whenever the root ball is too large for the pot. To avoid shock, select an area that is 20% bigger than the container in which it is.

If your anthurium's leaves have lost their shiny shine, spray a little natural soap diluted on the leaves and wipe it with a damp cloth. This lets the plant breathe and restores a beautiful sheen. Spider mites can cause anthuriums to suffer, but a pesticide can help to stop this.

Coconut Palm

Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is a tropical plant that is extensively cultivated all over the globe for its edible fruit. It is among the most important and widespread agricultural plants of the tropics. It is believed to have originated in Indo-Malaya. The wood from the trunk is used for building bridges and huts, while the fiber from the shells and husks is used to create ropes, mats, doormats, and brooms. The coconut itself is a drupe, and not an actual nut.

It is best to propagate this plant using seeds that are ready for planting when they emit an audible sloshing sound after shaking. The seeds are then placed on their sides with three eyes slightly tilted upwards and then buried in soil until approximately half the thickness of the shell. Germination can take a long time but can be accelerated by high temperatures and high humidity. After 6 months, the roots and shoots are ready to be transplanted.

The plant thrives in warmer climates and is not afraid of frost. However, it shouldn't be exposed to extreme cold temperatures as the plant may be damaged. It requires plenty of sunshine, a sheltered position and a well-drained sandy soil. Regular watering is required however, the soil should not be flooded. Fertilizing is also important, using a fertilizer with the highest nitrogen content.

In the spring season, this palm produces fragrant, sweet-smelling flowers on a few branched stalks which grow male and female coconuts. The flowers are protandrous and the male flowers open up before the females. The flowers are pollinated by the wind. After about 4-6 years the tree will begin bearing fruit.

For indoor cultivation, it is recommended to plant this exotic houseplant in a large pot with a well-drained, rich soil. It is a fan of sun however, it will tolerate low light. As it grows, repot the plant using a pot that is larger than its root ball. Water it thoroughly and feed it on a regular basis with a liquid fertilizer. Coconut palms are generally pest-free. However, they can be affected by a deadly yellowing. This disease is incurable and often results in the plant dying.
