10 Facts About Easy House Plants That Can Instantly Put You In An Upbeat Mood
Easy House Plants

Whether you jumped on the houseplant bandwagon some time ago or are looking for a new plant to add color to your apartment, there are plenty of plants that are a breeze to cultivate. These houseplants don't care about their surroundings or watering, and are resilient to neglect.

The spider plant, for instance thrives in bright indirect light and needs only to be watered when only the top few inches of soil are dry. The peace lily is a low-key option that has a beautiful leaf design.

Ponytail Palm

The tropical succulent known as the ponytail palm (Beaucarnea Recurvata) is simple to maintain. It does not require a lot of water or attention, making it an ideal choice for those with a hectic life.

Place the plant near large, unobstructed, windows or in a sun-filled area with a moderate amount of light. Avoid common houseplant , cold spaces and hot windows as they could dry out the foliage.

During the growing season It is recommended to water the plant only when the soil is dry to the surface. Avoid watering in winter months, as the ponytail palm is in a dormant state. When watering, use a moisture meter to help keep this plant from overwatering.

Ponytail palms grow slowly and that don't need pruning until they get sick. They are resistant to drought and can tolerate brief periods of cooler temperatures but they should be moved to a warmer room during winter. Fertilize your plants at least a few times a year, in the spring and during summer. Use a general plant fertilizer and follow the instructions of the manufacturer.

Schefflera

The Schefflera plant is a popular tropical houseplant. It is also known as umbrella plant or philodendron. It grows up to 4-6 feet tall indoors and is able to absorb bright indirect light.

The schrefflera can tolerate moderate to warm temperatures in the room, but it does not like cold drafts and could protest by dropping leaves. It needs a peat moss-based potting soil and should be fed monthly with water-soluble houseplant fertiliser.

If your schefflera is becoming leggy, you may need to buy a new pot. It will thrive in a pot that is a size or two bigger than its current container. This will encourage a bushy growth. Pince the growing tips of the plants to encourage branching.

The schefflera can be plagued by spider mites. Spraying the leaves of the plant with neem or insecticidal soap will rid the mites. It is also prone to thrips, but spotting and washing the thrips off with a damp cloth should suffice.

Chinese Evergreen

The aglaonema, also known as Chinese evergreen is among the easiest house plants to grow. It tolerates a wide range of indoor conditions, ranging from low light to bright spots and fluorescent lighting. It is also intolerant of cold temperatures, although it prefers warmer temperatures.

These tough slow-growing plants thrive in well-drained potting soil that is humus-rich. Include peat moss to improve drainage and aid in acidifying the soil. In the summer, you should water your aglaonema regularly but let the top inch or two of soil dry between waterings.

If your aglaonema becomes leggy or sparse, it's a sign that it requires more light or that it is pot-bound. Repot the plant into larger containers, remove any root systems that are tangled, and add new potting mix. If your plant is infested with insects spray it with soapy water. There are dozens to choose from including solid green types like Aglaonema ‘Frasher' and Aglaonema ‘Pseudobracteatum’ and variegated varieties such as Aglaonema ‘Silver Bay' and Aglaonema Stripes.

Calathea

This plant is a simple houseplant to maintain in comparison to its cousins whitestar and calathea ornata which can be difficult to care for. Calathea's pin-striped leaves can reach over a foot tall and look stunning when lit by indirect light.

Calatheas require slightly moist but not wet or soggy soil. If the soil feels dry to your fingertips, water the plant thoroughly. Watering should be done every two days, however you should check the soil on a regular basis to establish an established routine. If the potting mix is not as good, replace it with a well-draining mixture comprising one part peat and one part perlite or coco coir. Feed calatheas with a dilute fertilizer for houseplants twice per month in Spring and Summer.

The curly or drooping of leaves are signs of dehydration. They can be fixed by adding water for a few days. Discoloration on the leaves is usually caused by insects and can be treated with insecticidal soap or oil.

Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia is an easy-to-care for plant that will add some color to your home. Its oblong, variegated leaves can grow up to 12 inches.

Dieffenbachias like other plants, can be affected by certain conditions that may affect their appearance and health. The brown tips of the leaves could indicate low levels of humidity, whereas yellow leaves could be the result of excessive or submerged swimming. Inconsistently watering and hard tap water may also cause issues.

If your Dieffenbachia begins to lose its shape, try moving it to a brighter location. Examine the soil's moisture with your finger until the first knuckle, if you notice that the plant is losing its elasticity. Make sure to water the soil thoroughly, not just a little. Make sure you soak the soil in water until the excess water drains from the drainage holes. The ideal container for your Dieffenbachia is a plastic planter, which allows water to drain more efficiently than porous Terracotta.

Peperomia

The peperomia is an easy care house plant that's suitable for almost any room in your home. Its dark green shiny leaves are attractive and can help to purify the air.

Peperomias prefer moderate light and warm temperatures however they do not like direct sunlight. If the leaves are scorched or discolored it is an indication that they're getting too much sun and should be moved into a more shaded area.

As their wild counterparts do Peperomias are epiphytic plant which cling to branches of trees and other tall structures to access more indirect, bright sunlight. They thrive in well-drained soil that drains between waterings. If you notice that the roots of your peperomia are eroding out of its pot It's time to repot. Use a houseplant mix that is free of peat and put it in a bigger container than the one you use to prevent root rot. Feed your peperomia using a general houseplant fertiliser once per month during the summer.

Arrowhead Vine

Arrowhead vine (Syngonium podophyllum) is an exotic plant that develops into a sprawling, lush climbing vine that can be used as an easy houseplant. It is a good houseplant for those who are new to gardening, since it is easy to propagate.

To cut a hole from an existing arrowhead find an arrowhead with a healthy stem, then carefully cut the stem near the base of the petiole. Using clean, sharp, and sterile hand pruning shears is the best choice for this task.

Water your arrowheads often, especially in the summer. Be sure to allow the soil to dry out between waterings as archerhead plants don't like constantly wet soil. Winter is the only time they require fertilizer, since the plant is dormant. This plant contains calcium oxalate crystals which can cause a burning sensation when ingested, so it's important to keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Also known as nephthytis, goosefoot or philodendron, the arrowhead vine is a favorite of gardeners who want to enjoy its vibrant foliage and low-maintenance.

Snake Plant

Snake plants (also known as Sansevieria) are among the easiest houseplants to plant. They thrive in areas with low light as well as drought and are prone to some insect issues. The plant can also be used to clean the air inside your home. It converts CO2 into oxygen in the daytime and removes formaldehyde, benzene and formaldehyde during the night.

Healthy snake plants have sturdy leaves that are upright and are green with cream, yellow or white edges. Overwatering, lack light or thrips, or root rot can cause leaves to droop.

Repot your snake plant in a container two inches wider when the roots are overcrowded or when it is outgrowing its current pot. Select a soil that has good drainage, preferably one third perlite or sand, and one-third peat. Fertilize every month during the growing season using an organic fertilizer in half strength.

Money Plant

Money plants are easy to grow and considered as a lucky plant that can bring prosperity to the homeowners who take care of them. They also help to channel positive energy. You can give them to your loved ones and they are ideal for sending wishes to them prosperity and wealth. These plants are known to grow best in the southeast direction of your home, according to Vastu and Feng Shui.

Money Plants are not only an excellent air purifier they also can withstand less than ideal indoor conditions. However, it's an excellent idea to check the plant's fertilization and watering requirements regularly. If the leaves change color, it could be a sign of overwatering or the soil isn't draining well.

The most typical indicators of a healthy Money Plant are green leaves and long stems with light brown tips. It is a low maintenance houseplant that does not require much sunlight or fertilizer.
