Training
The soldiers being trained were assigned to small WWII bunkers, they were wooden, two-story shacks ,heated by a coal furnace, usually below freezing temperature by morning. There are four squads in a platoon, so that means that there were around about 50 men, who slept on one floor in double-decker bunks.
On the second floor there was another platoon.
In the next bunker there would be another two platoons and so on.
The trainers did not mess around, they were very strict and pushed the trainees very hard. This meant that they were often sleep deprived.
During training they would learn how to disassemble and reassemble light infantry weapons such as M-14s and the M-1 Garand (both of them were rifles).
They also learnt how to do so in the dark and in all environments.
They also had to learn how to fire a bazooka (a type of rocket launcher)
Also digging foxholes was an essential part of the training, it involved digging a hole that could be entered and exited as cover, and how to assemble efficient bivouacs (temporary camps without tents)


They were lectured on hygiene and how to behave as a prisoner of war (not giving away details and secrets)
