Ten Startups That Are Set To Change The House Plant Industry For The Better
Easy House Plants

A huge tree with glossy leaves and a modern pot will add a touch of elegance to any corner. It is easy to grow and will be root bound. This means that there is less need for repotting.

A good match between plants and the right lighting conditions is vital. Avoid houseplants with drooping leaves, soggy soil or soft roots since they could be beyond saving and may carry disease.

Pothos

Pothos is also known as Devil's Ivy and Rapunzel Plant. It's among the easiest plants for foliage to maintain. It thrives under dim to bright indirect lighting and is perfect to fill dark spaces of a room. It is tolerant of all conditions, and even direct sunlight, as long as it is not prolonged. If it's exposed to excessive sunlight, it can be swollen and lose its variegation.

Pothos is easy to propagate by cutting a stem tip. Simply cut a length of the vine and then cut two leaves to around 2"-3". Then place it in a pot of water. It will begin to grow roots very fast. Remember to change out the water regularly, ideally every other week. It will grow in either water or potting soil. Once the root system is established (usually within 4 weeks) move it into a pot that has regular potting soil for house plants.

Pothos as with all houseplants, requires a an all-purpose fertilizer to keep it healthy. However, it doesn't require fertilization like other houseplants. It is sufficient to feed the plant once per month in the spring and summer months.

As with most plants, it's essential to avoid placing a Pothos in a drafty area or near a radiator since the leaves are likely to turn brown and shrunk. Place the plant in a brighter space in your home, and fertilize it as usual.

A Pothos' leaves will tell you if it requires to be watered. It's time to water it if the leaf edges have become dry and brown. Also, if the leaves begin to lose their shape, it's almost certainly time to give it a drink.

Epipremnum (Pothos) Epipremnum (Pothos) variety of heart-shaped leaves available in white, green or yellow, is available. The most well-known varieties include "Marble Queen," which is striking white and green variegation. Another popular variety is "Neon," which has green leaves with red and yellow markings.

potted house plants can last up to 10 years given the right conditions. Simple maintenance and good environmental care can help extend this lifespan. It is also extremely easy to propagate making it an excellent option for people who are new to gardening.

Monstera

Monstera Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, or split-leaf philodendron, is a popular indoor houseplant in temperate regions. It can be grown outdoors in warmer climates, and is a popular landscaping plant. It is a moderately generous cultivator, and only needs to be watered every now and then to keep the soil moist.

The monstera, a species of the Dracaena family is named for its odd-looking leaves with a strange pattern of holes. It resembles Swiss cheese. The fenestrations (also known as lobes or holes) appear on the leaves when they get older. Monstera cultivars produce fruit in the wild, however it is difficult to get the plant to bear fruit in typical indoor conditions.

Contrary to the majority of succulents Monsteras do not thrive in cold temperatures and will not survive in temperatures that are colder than a few hours. They prefer tropical temperatures that are like their native rainforest habitats. This makes them an excellent choice for a conservatory or another spot in the sun that's cool enough to avoid freezing and frost.

Monsteras are a type of vining plant and use aerial roots to grow through the soil. In the wild, they typically attach themselves to trees or rocks after growing on the forest floor for a few years. This is why many homeowners of plants add a trellis to their pots once the plant grows.

The moss pole, which could be constructed using chicken wire or a chunk of long-strand sphagnum moss, will aid the plant and allow it to climb up instead of out of the pot. The pole will also help to deter pests like sap-sucking mealybugs, aphids, and tiny cigar-shaped thrips, which can damage the plant's leaves.

To encourage healthy, vigorous growth of the plant, you should repot it regularly and give it plenty of indirect sunlight. It can withstand some direct sunlight, but shouldn't be exposed to harsh sunlight from dawn until dusk. If exposed to sunlight the monstera could burn its leaves and even die.

ZZ Plant

Zamioculcas, also known as ZZ plant or the ZZ plant for short, is one of the most easy plants to care for. It is a good choice for dark areas of the house where other plants cannot thrive. ZZ plants can reach heights of up to an elongated metre or more therefore they're well-suited to larger pots and plant stands.

The ZZ plant's main disadvantage is that it can be poisonous if ingested so make sure it stays away from pets who are nipping and children. It also has the potential to irritate your skin, so be sure to wear gloves when handling it. There are claims that it causes cancer but there isn't any evidence of this.

Like all succulents, ZZ plants are relatively easy to grow and care for. They don't need a lot of water, however they should be thoroughly watered and it is crucial to allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot and it's recommended to stay on the side of not needing more.

The most suitable potting mix for them is a thick, well-draining mix with some perlite or sand added to improve drainage. The plant is not a fast grower and can be kept in the same pot for a long time. However they will have to have their roots replanted as they begin to poke their way through the soil.

Fertilize during the growing season using half-strength liquid fertilizer. During the warmer months, this is typically performed once or twice per month.

As with all indoor plants, look for insects such as Aphids regularly. Look for long, leggy stems and yellow spots or patterns on the leaves. The leaves are also prone to rot and mold, so don't ignore these warning signs and let them go out of control.

These plants need a some humidity, but they can be used in normal house temperatures. Misting the leaves regularly will keep them dust free not just for aesthetic reasons, but also to aid them in their function as air purifying plants.

Kentia Palm

The kentia (Howea) palm is a stunning and easy to care for plant. It has been a common houseplant in a variety of houses of the royal and aristocratic since Victorian times. This is due to its ability to thrive in poor conditions such as limited sunlight exposure and air conditioning as well as central heating. It's also pretty tolerant of neglect making it an ideal choice for novice gardeners.

Kentias like direct, bright light and can tolerate a little shade but it is best to keep them away from direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. They also do not like damp spots so don't place them close to windows that are often opened and closed.

The kentia palm requires soil mixes that are nutrient-rich and well-draining. To get this, a mixture of perlite, peat moss and pot soil can be used to create a planter's medium. Plant your kentia palm in a pot that has drainage holes and then water it thoroughly when the top centimetres of compost are dry. Overwatering can cause root rot. It is recommended to let the soil air dry before watering.

You can trim your kentia to keep its shape, and remove dead leaves that appear. Pruning should be done with care as too many fronds removed can harm the trunk and expose the plant to disease. If you do prune, be sure to use shears with an edge that is smooth and cut off the leaf bases from their base rather than forcing them off as this can cause permanent scarring.

A kentia is susceptible to pests such as spider mites, mealybugs and scale insects. Regularly dusting the fronds with a cloth or sponge can help to prevent these problems from occurring. If they do occur, spray the plant with insecticidal oil or soap.
