A Productive Rant About House Plant
Easy House Plants

A slender monstera with its glossy leaves and modern pot adds a striking touch to the corner. It's undemanding and happy to be root bound which means it doesn't require repotting.

Matching plants with the right lighting conditions is vital. Avoid houseplants with drooping leaves, soggy soil or soft roots since they could be beyond saving and may harbour diseases.

Pothos

Pothos is also known as Devil's Ivy or Rapunzel plant, is one of the easiest to maintain foliage plants. It thrives in indirect lighting that is dim to bright and is ideal to fill dark spaces of a room. It is tolerant to all conditions, and even direct sunlight as long as it is not prolonged. However, if it gets too much sun it may become leggy and lose its variegation.

Pothos can be propagated from a stem cutting. Simply cut a length from the vine and remove two leaves down to about 2"-3". Then place it in a pot of water. It will begin to develop roots very fast. It is important to change the water regularly at least every two weeks. It can be put in either potting soil, and will grow well in both. Once the root system has been established (usually within 4 weeks) it is possible to transfer it into a pot with regular pots for your houseplants.

Like all plants, Pothos needs good general fertilizer for your houseplant to ensure its health. Pothos does not require regular fertilization like other houseplants . A monthly feeding during the spring and summer months should suffice.

As with most plants, it is important to avoid placing a Pothos in drafty areas or near a radiator since the leaves are likely to turn brown and become shrunk. If this happens, place it in a brighter part of the house and then fertilize it as usual.

A Pothos' leaves will tell you if it needs to be watered. If the leaf edges are dry and brown, it's time to give it a drink. If plants house begin to shrink then it's time to water them.

Epipremnum aureum (Pothos) is widely available in various cultivars with heart-shaped leaves that vary from green to white and yellow. The most well-known varieties include "Marble Queen" with a striking green and white variegation. Another variety that is popular is "Neon," which has green leaves that are yellow and red markings.

Pothos can live for up to 10 years if given the right conditions. Basic maintenance and good environment care can prolong the life span of this plant. It is also extremely easy to propagate and propagate, making it an excellent option for beginners who want to grow.

Monstera

Monstera Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant and split-leaf philodendron is a very popular indoor houseplant in temperate regions. It is also a popular landscape plant that can be grown outside in warmer climates. It is a moderately greedy plant, and needs to be occasionally watered to keep the soil moist.

The monstera, which is a member of the Dracaena family is named after its bizarre-looking leaves, which have an odd pattern of holes. It's like Swiss cheese. The lobes and holes are scientifically referred to as fenestrations. They appear on the leaves as they age. Monstera Deliciciosa plants produce fruit in the wild, but it is difficult to get the plant to bear fruit in normal indoor conditions.

plants house are not tolerating cold temperatures, and will die if left out for more than an hour. They prefer tropical temperatures that are similar to their native rainforest habitats. This makes them an excellent option for a conservatory or other sunny spot cool enough to prevent frost and freezing.

Monsteras are vines that make use of aerial roots to climb up the soil. In the wild, they typically grow along the forest floor, and then attach themselves to rocks or trees. This natural behavior is why many plant owners add a the moss or trellis pole to their pots as the plant develops.

The moss rod constructed from chicken wire or sphagnum with long-strands will support the plants and allow them to climb up, instead of out of their pots. The pole will also help to deter pests like sap-sucking aphids, mealybugs and tiny thrips in the shape of cigars that can damage the leaves of the plant.

Repot the plant regularly and ensure it has plenty of indirect, bright sunlight. It can tolerate some direct light however it shouldn't be placed in harsh sunlight from dawn to dusk. If exposed to direct sunlight, monstera will burn its leaves and eventually die.

ZZ Plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia also known as the ZZ plant was a huge hit when it first appeared on the market, and is one of the easiest house plants to care for. It's a great option for areas of the house that other plants aren't able to thrive in, as it can thrive in any lighting conditions other than direct sunlight. ZZ plants can reach the height of one meter, which means they are best suited for larger pots and plant stands.

The ZZ plant is poisonous and should not be consumed by pets or children. Use gloves when handling the plant since it can cause irritation to your skin. There are rumors that it causes cancer however, there is no proof of this.

Like all succulents, ZZ plants are relatively easy to cultivate and care for. They do not require a lot of moisture, but they should be watered thoroughly and the soil should dry between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot so it is best to err on the side of less than less.

They thrive best in an adsorbent, free-draining potting mix that has some added perlite or sand for better drainage. They aren't fast-growing house plants and can live for a long time without repotted, but they'll need to be repotted when their roots start poking out from the top of the soil.

Fertilize your plants during the growing season by using a liquid fertilizer that is half strength. In small house plants , this is typically repeated once or twice a month.

Examine for Aphids As you would with any other indoor plant. Check for spindly stems that are leggy and long and yellow patterns or spots on the leaves (see photo above). The leaves are also prone to rot and mold so don't ignore these signs and let them go out of control.

They require a little bit of humidity but are fine in most normal temperatures in the house. The leaves will not be smudge-free if you mist them regularly. This is not only to enhance the appearance of your home, but also to aid them in their function as air purifying plants.

Kentia Palm

A stunning and easy to maintain plant, the kentia palm (Howea forsteriana) is a favorite since the Victorian era and was a common house plant of many royal and aristocratic families. This is due to its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions including limited sunlight exposure as well as air conditioning and central heating. It's also tolerant of neglect, which makes it an ideal choice for people who are new to gardening.

Kentias prefer light, indirect and bright. They can tolerate a little shade, but direct sunlight can burn their leaves. They dislike draughty areas so avoid placing them near windows which are frequently shut and opened.

The kentia plant requires a soil mix that is nutrient-rich and well-draining. A mix of perlite, peat, and potting soil can work well to create this soil mix. Plant your kentia in a pot with drainage holes. Make sure to water the palm thoroughly once the compost's top centimetres are dry. Overwatering can cause root rot. It's also best to let the soil dry for a while before watering again.

You can trim the fronds on your kentia palm to maintain its shape, and also remove dead leaves as they appear. Pruning should be carried out with care as too many fronds removed could cause damage to the trunk and leave the plant open to disease. If you choose to prune using shears, make sure you use ones with a a smooth cutting surface and remove the leaf bases from their base instead of forcing them off. This can leave permanent marks.

A kentia plant can be quite susceptible to pests, like spider mites, mealybugs and scale insects. Cleaning the fronds frequently using a sponge or cloth can help to prevent this issue. If they do occur, try spraying the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
