The 10 Scariest Things About House Plant
Easy House Plants

A slim, slender plant with glossy leaves and modern pot makes a striking addition to a corner. It is easy to grow and will happily be root bound. This will reduce the need for repotting.

It is crucial to ensure that plants are in harmony with lighting conditions. Avoid houseplants that have drooping leaves, soggy soil or soft roots since they could be beyond saving and may carry diseases.

Pothos

Pothos is also known as Devil's Ivy or Rapunzel plant is among the easiest to maintain foliage plants. It thrives in light to low indirect light and is great to fill in dark spots in the room. It can tolerate most conditions, and even direct sunlight as long as it is not prolonged. If it's exposed excessive sunlight, it can get swollen and lose its variegation.

Pothos can be propagated from the cutting of a stem. Simply cut a length of vine and remove some leaves to around 2"-3". Place it in a container filled with water. It will begin growing roots very quickly. Make sure to change the water regularly, ideally every two weeks. house plants online will grow in either water or potting soil. Once the root system is established (usually within 4 weeks) it is possible to transfer it to a pot that has regular pots for houseplants.

Pothos as with all houseplants, requires an all-purpose fertilizer to ensure its health. However, it doesn't need to be fertilized more often than other houseplants. A regular feeding in the spring and summer months should be sufficient.

Like all plants, it's important to avoid placing Pothos Pothos in a drafty area or near a radiator, as it can cause its leaves to become brown and shrivelled. If this happens, reposition it in a brighter area of the home and fertilize it as usual.

The leaves of the Pothos will let you know if it needs watering. If the edges of the leaf are dry and brown it's time to give it a drink. If tall houseplants begin to shrink and drop, it's time to water them.

Epipremnum aureum (Pothos) is widely available in various cultivars with heart-shaped leaves that vary between white and yellow. house plants online include 'Marble Queen,' which has an attractive white-and-green variation and 'Neon' which has green leaves adorned with yellow and red markings.

The life expectancy of Pothos is five to 10 years, but giving the right conditions and regular maintenance, it can extend its life considerably. It is also incredibly easy to propagate which makes it a good option for those who are just beginning to grow.

Monstera

Monstera deliciosa, also called the Swiss cheese plant or split-leaf Philodendron, is a popular indoor houseplant in temperate regions. It can also be grown outside in warm climates and is a well-loved landscape plant. It is a moderately greedy plant, and requires only occasionally watered to keep the soil moist.

The monstera, a member of the Dracaena family is named for its bizarre-looking leaves, which have a strange pattern of holes. It's like Swiss cheese. These holes and lobes known as fenestrations appear on the leaves as they age. In the wild, Monstera deliciosa produces fruit. However, it's difficult to make this plant produce fruit in a typical indoor setting.

In contrast to most succulents, Monsteras do not thrive in cold temperatures and will not survive when left out for more than an hour. They prefer tropical temperatures that are similar to their rainforest habitats. This makes them a great choice for a conservatory or another sunny spot that is cool enough to avoid frost and freezing.

Monsteras are vine plants that make use of aerial roots to climb through the soil. In the wild, they often attach themselves to trees or rocks after growing along the forest floor for a while. This natural habit is the reason many plant owners add a trellis or moss poles to their pots as the plant grows.

The moss pole that can be made with chicken wire or a chunk of long-strand sphagnum moss will help provide support to the plant and allow it to climb instead of out of the pot. The pole will also help to deter pests such as sap-sucking mealybugs, aphids and tiny thrips in the shape of cigars which can cause damage to the plant's leaves.

Repot the plant regularly and ensure it has plenty of indirect, bright sunlight. It can tolerate some direct light, but it should not be placed in harsh sunlight from dawn until dusk. If exposed to direct sunlight monstera can burn its leaves and even die.

ZZ Plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia, better known as the ZZ plant was a huge hit when it first hit the market and is considered to be one of the most simple house plants to take care of. It is a good option for areas of the house in which other plants can't thrive. ZZ plants can grow to an elevation of up to one metre, and are best suited for larger pots and stands.

The ZZ plant is poisonous and should not be eaten by pets or children. Wear gloves when handling the plant since it can cause irritation to your skin. It is believed that it causes cancer, however it has not been proven.

Like all succulents, ZZ plants are relatively easy to care for. They don't require a great deal of water but they must be kept well hydrated and it is crucial to allow the soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's best to err on the side of allowing less than less.

The most suitable potting mix for them is a thick well-draining mix, with a little perlite or sand added to aid in drainage. The plant isn't quick to grow and can be left in the same pot for years. However they will have to be replanted as they begin to poke their way through the soil.

Fertilize during the growing season using an diluted half-strength liquid fertilizer. This usually happens once or twice a month during the summer months.

As with house plants online , be sure to check for insects like Aphids regularly. Look for spindly stems that are long and leggy and yellow patterns or spots on the leaves (see the image above). Don't ignore the signs of mold and rot.

They need a little humidity, but they are fine at most house temperatures. The leaves will remain dust-free by misting them frequently. This is not only for aesthetic reasons, but also to help them perform as air purifying plants.

Kentia Palm

A stunning and easy to maintain plant The kentia palm (Howea forsteriana) has been popular since the Victorian era and was a common house plant for many royal and aristocratic households. It can thrive in arid conditions, such as central heating, air conditioning and low sunlight. It also tolerates neglect, which makes it a great choice for people who are new to gardening.

Kentias like indirect, bright light and will tolerate a little shade however, it is best to keep them away from direct sunlight since this can cause the leaves to burn. They also dislike draughty spots so avoid placing them near windows that are frequently opened and closed.

The kentia requires a soil mixture that is rich in nutrients and drains well. A mix of peat, perlite, and potting soil will make a great planting medium. Plant your kentia in a pot that has drainage holes. Make sure to water the palm thoroughly when the compost top centimetres are dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot. It's also best to let the soil dry out for a while before watering again.

You can prune the fronds of your kentia palm to keep its shape, and also remove dead leaves as they appear. Pruning must be done with care as removing too many fronds can harm the plant's trunk and expose it to infection. If you decide to prune, use shears that have smooth cutting surfaces and remove the leaf bases from their base, instead of pushing them away. This can leave permanent scars.

A kentia may be vulnerable to a variety of pests, including spider mites, mealybugs and scale insects. Cleaning the fronds regularly with a sponge or cloth can prevent these issues from happening. If they do, try spraying the plant with insecticidal soap, or neem oil.
