Throughout its century-long history, Fresno State has had a special relationship with the United States Air Force. From its earliest days as a Junior College in 1911, through its eventual renaming as Fresno State College in 1935 and beyond, when it began to offer four-year degrees in 1949 and eventually became a University in 1972, Fresno State has welcomed numerous ROTC units over the years. The university can boast of many celebrated former students who proudly served in the Air Force, such as General Lloyd W. "Fig" Newton - the first African American pilot to reach the highest rank within the branch.
Fresh off of being hand-picked by the Air Force, Fresno State has earned its place among the top universities when it comes to producing quality officers for the United States Air Force. Fresno State provides students enrolled in their Air Force ROTC program with a comprehensive education and training. Additionally, Fresno State offers a broad selection of extracurricular activities and organizations, assisting students in nurturing their leadership skillsets while deepening their appreciation for the Air Force.

With a long-standing history of cultivating talented airmen, Fresno State is recognized and respected by the Air Force, producing officers who have reached every rank in the service, from rookie to bureaucracy director.
