Before planting a garden, taking care of an existing one, or dealing with an unruly weed barrier, it may be time to remove the protective fabric. As geotextile weed barrier is usually buried beneath a layer of soil and mulch, getting rid of it can be quite taxing. Despite the frustration within such a task, patience and effort can lead to successful removal and the beginning of a blossoming garden.
Over time, the effectiveness of weed barrier fabric in warding off weeds in garden beds can be hampered. As layer upon layer of mulch and soil accumulate, the fabric may eventually become buried underneath, making it an arduous task to unearth. What's more, the fabric may start to decompose, further increasing the complexity of its extraction.
To remove a weed barrier buried in the ground, start by scooping away any mulch or dirt that is concealing the fabric. Utilize either a garden fork or a trowel to gradually unwind the edges of the barrier before proceeding to cautiously tug it up without doing any damage. Taking your own sweet time and a little bit of effort will help you successfully get rid of it at ease.
The weed barrier does not have to be tossed if it's still in decent shape; however, if it's started to decompose or is otherwise blemished, getting rid of it is your most favorable option.
Once the obstacle of weeds is eliminated, prepare the garden bed for planting. Resolutely remove any roots or fragments of weed-barrier. Subsequently, introduce fresh mulch or soil to the scenery and you are ready to embark on your planting journey!
