Foo Fighters fans without tickets to this weekend's sold-out Fenway Park performances can shop the band's Fenway-themed merch at a pop-up store that is opening today. Foo Fighters Fridge Magnets has set up an e-commerce store temporarily in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace to sell merchandise prior to the two concerts in the stadium as well other venues in New England as part of its Sonic Highways world tour. The shop, in the South Market building across from Cheers it is open today until 9 p.m. and will be open again on the following day from noon-6 p.m.
The band was first formed in 1994 as a single man venture by ex- Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Grohl quickly realized the band could not continue as a solo act and enlisted bassist Nate Mendel (of Sunny Day Real Estate) and guitarist William Goldsmith and drummer Pat Smear (Nirvana). The group that formed in 1995, released their first album that earned them an Grammy Award as Best Hard Rock Album. Foo Fighters were a four-piece after Smear left in 1999 and Taylor Hawkins from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers joined. Every album since has won Grammy Awards.
Grohl has decided to stop drumming for the band in order to focus on his solo career as well as other projects. These include a new documentary starring Jack Black of 'Tenacious' D. Grohl also raids his merch stash to help independent venues that were severely affected by COVID-19. The shirts are being sold to help raise money for Music Venue Trust #SaveOurVenues, a campaign that has already generated over $570,000. This is a way to ensure that the next generation of British music fans from losing their local venues.
