How Inside House Plants Arose To Be The Top Trend On Social Media
Five Types of Inside House Plants

There are many plants that can be used as houseplants, whether you're a gardener in the indoors or just want some greenery. They like indirect lighting that is bright to medium and mists or humidity.

Snake plants (Sansevieria trifasciata) often referred to as mother-in-law's tongue, were included in a NASA study that revealed they removed contaminants from indoor air over time. They are decorative and easy to take care of.

1. English Ivy

Ivy plants, Hedera Helix are beautiful indoor houseplant. Their twisting tendrils spill out from flower pots and hanging containers. They are also often grafted on trellis frames and wire topiary forms to create whimsical and formal shapes. While English Ivy is the most well-known variety of ivie, there are different cultivars of hedera helix that have leaves that come in a variety of shapes and shades. These include 'Culy Locks', a vigorous cultivar with green leaves that twist and curl and curl; 'Gold Baby' which is smaller than most other varieties; 'Glacier' which can handle slightly lower light conditions; and 'Shamrock', a glossy green variety that looks the most like ivy that grows outdoors in miniature form.

Ivies typically need medium to bright indirect light when used as a houseplant. They're not as comfortable in dim light as they are in brighter light and variegated ivy tends to prefer light rather than high light. It is important to water your ivy regularly enough to keep the soil moist but not saturated, and be sure the plant gets some bright sunlight for a period of time every day.

As an indoor plant, ivy can improve the air quality in your home. Ivy is an excellent natural humidifier and it can absorb toxins in the atmosphere such as volatile organic compounds and particulates. This is the reason you'll see ivies in numerous hospitals, schools and office buildings, where they are used to reduce respiratory problems.

However, some people do not consider ivy to be an air purifier since it contains some harmful components. If you don't want to risk it then you can experiment with other ivy-like plants, like pothos and philodendron.

Although ivy can be a good choice as an indoor plant it is susceptible to common indoor pests and diseases. Aphids and mites are two of the most prevalent pests. Both can be treated by using a powerful insecticide. Leaf spots are caused by oomycetes from the Phytophthora Genus that can cause ivy leaves to brown or turn wilting. If you see spots on your ivy plant apply a copper fungicide.

Indoor ivy can also develop root rot. This is more prevalent in greenhouses and outside however, it can also be found in homes. The roots of plants will develop black spots and can eventually die. If you observe any signs of root rot, try to give your plant less water and keep the soil dry between waterings.

2. Snake Plant

Sansevieria, also known as snake plant, as it's sometimes called is among the most adaptable and sought-after indoor plants. These robust, tolerant houseplants have sword-like leaves that add a sense of intrigue and depth to interior design. They are also easy to maintain. In fact, you will have to try hard to kill a snake plant! This makes them perfect for new plant parents or people who have difficulty keeping other houseplants alive.

Snake plants need bright indirect light in order to flourish. However, they have an exclusive survival mechanism that allows them to adjust to low light conditions, as well. Sansevieria tolerates more fluctuations in light than other houseplants. This means you can put them in a place that gets some direct sunlight throughout the day but be sure that it's not in the harsh afternoon sun that can burn other houseplants.

Snake plants are more tolerant of droughts because they can hold on to water. It is also resistant to many household pests and illnesses, including spider mites.

The ability of the snake plant to purify air is another benefit. As it releases moisture and oxygen into the air, it helps reduce allergies and other respiratory problems by trapping dust and pollen. It can also enhance the acoustics of a room by blocking out noise.

If you have a snake plant that starts to brown or has mushy roots it could be suffering from root rot. If house plants online suspect this, remove any dead leaves or roots and then repot the plant with fresh potting soil. This will revive your beloved houseplant returning it to life.

Snake plants are also said to bring positive energy into your home. They are believed to fight bad spirits such as jealousy and resentment. They are also believed to aid in maintaining a normal blood pressure, heal wounds and burns and relieve headaches. They also eliminate parasites. Many people believe that these claims are true, even though they are not backed up by scientific proof.

3. Philodendron

Philodendrons are a great plant for people who want to plant an indoor plant that will bring life and color to their space. They are easy to maintain and can be a great source of oxygen. They are also a very quick growing plant and quickly benefit from proper care by releasing new growth and leaves. They can also act as a natural air purifier. The large, porous leafs help remove harmful chemical compounds from the air like formaldehyde.

You can grow them as a houseplant if you plant them in a soil mix that drains well and place them in indirect, warm light. After six weeks, the seeds will begin to germinate and develop roots. It is a good idea at this point to spray the soil with water in order to keep it humid. Once the seedlings have grown enough to be moved into a larger container, they should be placed under the bright indirect light and regularly fed with fertilizer in liquid form.

Each Philodendron has its own needs. Certain philodendrons require high humidity while others can handle low lighting conditions. Philodendrons generally thrive in medium to bright indirect sunlight throughout the daytime. They require regular watering and you can tell when they require watering by the leaves that are wilting.

A fun fact about Philodendrons: they produce edible fruits. Indigenous tribes often collect them from the rainforest to use as medicines. The fruit is usually eaten raw, but can be cooked to make it easier to digest.

If you're interested in buying a philodendron to use as an indoor plant, it is suggested to select the heart-leaf variety. This is the best choice for low light conditions. However, any of the other varieties of philodendron would be an excellent option as long as they are gradually introduced to brighter light conditions to ensure that their leaves don't burn. It's not just pleasing to the eyes, but also beneficial for your mental health to have a plant in your home that will improve the air quality within your home.

4. Air Plants

Air plants (also called Tillandsias) are epiphytes that thrive on trees in the wild, however they're becoming popular as house plants due to their stunning sculptural beauty as well as ease of care. These beautiful plants don't require soil to grow. They can be planted in a variety of creative ways. They are available in a broad range of shapes and sizes, including flat, spiky leaves, strap-like branches and flowers in shades of pink, red, or purple that can last from only a few days up to months.

Like all species of plants, air plants require water in order to thrive. In the wild, air plants get their moisture from the frequent rain and humid conditions of their habitat. But without soil and drier indoor conditions, providing constant humidity can be difficult for most air plants. The best way to water an air plant is to spray it with a mister twice or three times a week. This method also helps keep the leaves from becoming too wet, which could cause fungal and rot infections. You can also immerse your air plant into an aquarium filled with water at room temperature. Some people suggest soaking the plant for 30 minutes or more in order to ensure that it is properly hydrated.

The best spot to grow an air plant is in a sunny area that can receive indirect light. Be aware that certain species of air plants prefer shaded or dappled lighting over full sunlight. If your plant is exposed to direct sunlight, it's essential to shield the leaves with a piece of fabric or glass.

Most air plant issues are caused by improper humidity or watering. If your plant begins to appear dull or brittle, it could be dehydrated. If it's mushy or has dark spots on its base, it may be suffering from decay. If it has twigs that are small that are sprouting from the base of the plant, it's probably ready to be replanted.

Having houseplants in your home can make you feel more relaxed and at ease. Plants can reduce cortisol levels and aid in sleeping better. Plants around you can boost your imagination!
