10 Startups That Will Change The House Plant Industry For The Better
Easy House Plants

A slim, slender plant with glossy leaves and contemporary pot adds a striking touch to the corner. It is easy to grow and will be root bound. This means that there is less need to repot.

It is crucial to ensure that plants are in harmony with conditions of light. Avoid plants in your home that have leaf drooping or swollen or mushy roots. They could also be a source of soil that is wet. They might not be salvageable and could be a breeding ground for diseases.

Pothos

Pothos is also called Devil's Ivy and Rapunzel Plant. It's among the easiest plants to take care of. It thrives under low to bright indirect lighting and is ideal for filling dark areas of a room. It is tolerant of most conditions and can even tolerate direct sunlight, if not prolonged. However, if it is exposed to too much sun it may become leggy and lose its variegation.

houseplants near me can be propagated from the stem cutting. Simply cut a length of the vine and then cut two leaves down to 2"-3". Then place it in a container of water. It will begin growing roots very quickly. Make sure to change the water regularly, ideally every two weeks. It can be put in either potting or water soil, and will root well in both. Once the root system has been established (usually within 4 weeks), you can transfer it into a pot with regular pots of soil for houseplants.

Pothos as with all houseplants, needs good general houseplant fertiliser to stay healthy. Pothos does not require as frequent fertilization as other houseplants. A monthly feeding during the spring and summer months should suffice.

Like most plants, it is important to avoid placing the Pothos in drafty areas or near a radiator as the leaves are likely to turn brown and shrivelled. Reposition the plant in a more well-lit area of your home and fertilize it as normal.

A Pothos leaves will tell you if it needs to be watered. If the leaf edges are brown and dry, it's time to drink it. If the leaves begin to drop it's probably time to water it.

house plants names (Pothos) is widely available in various cultivars with heart-shaped leaves that vary from green to white and yellow. The most well-known varieties are 'Marble queen,' which has a striking white-and-green variegation and 'Neon which has green leaves that have yellow and red markings.

Pothos can live up to 10 years if provided the right conditions are in place. A simple maintenance program and proper environment care can prolong the life span of this plant. It is also very easy to propagate making it a perfect option for people who are new to gardening.

Monstera

Monstera Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, or split-leaf philodendron, is a very popular indoor houseplant in temperate regions. It can also be grown outdoors in warm climates and is a very popular landscaping plant. It is a moderately greedy plant, and needs to be occasionally watered to keep the soil damp.

A part of the Dracaena genus Monstera is named because of its peculiar-looking leaves and a strange web of holes that give it the appearance like Swiss cheese. The fenestrations (also called holes or lobes) appear on the leaves when they grow. In the wild, Monstera deliciosa produces fruit. However, it's difficult to get this plant to produce fruit in an indoor environment.

In contrast to most succulents, Monsteras are not able to thrive in cold temperatures and will not survive if left outside for more than just a few hours. They prefer tropical temperatures that are similar to their native rainforest habitats. This makes them a great option for a conservatory or other sunny spot cool enough to keep frost out and freezing.

Monsteras are vine plants which use aerial roots to ascend through the soil. In the wild, they typically attach themselves to trees or rocks after they have grown along the forest floor for a few years. This is the reason many gardeners add a trellis or moss pole to their pots as the plant expands.

The moss pole, which can be made with chicken wire or a piece of sphagnum moss with a long-strand will help aid the plant and let it climb up instead of escaping from the pot. The pole can also help repel pests like sap-sucking aphids, mealybugs, and tiny thrips in the shape of cigars that can cause damage to the leaves of the plant.

To encourage healthy, vigorous growth of the plant, repot it regularly and give it plenty of indirect sunlight. It can take some direct light however it shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight from dawn to dusk. If exposed to the sun monstera can burn its leaves and eventually die.

ZZ Plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia, better known as the ZZ plant was a huge hit when it first hit the market and is one of the easiest house plants to maintain. It is a great choice for darker areas of the house where other plants aren't able to thrive. ZZ plants can grow to the height of one metre, so they are best suited to larger pots and stands.

The ZZ plant's most significant disadvantage is that it's poisonous if consumed, so keep it away from pets that are nibbling and children. Use gloves when handling the plant because it can cause irritation to your skin. It is believed to cause cancer, however it has not been proven.

ZZ plants, as with all succulents, are simple to grow and maintain. They don't require a lot of moisture, but they must be well-watered and the soil must dry between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot so it is best to be on the side of less than more.

The ideal potting mix for them is a hefty well-draining mix, with a little perlite or sand added to improve drainage. They're not a fast-growing plant for the home and can go years without repotted, however they'll need to be repotted if their roots start poking out of the top of the soil.

Fertilize tall houseplants during the growing season by using a liquid fertilizer that is half strength. In the warmer months, this is typically repeated once or twice a month.

Look for Aphids, as you would with any indoor plant. Check for spindly stems that are long and leggy, and yellow patterns or spots on the leaves (see photo above). The leaves are also susceptible to rot and mold, so don't ignore these warning signs and allow them to get out of hand.

The plants require a some humidity, but they can be used in normal temperatures in the house. Misting the leaves frequently will ensure they are dust-free, not only for aesthetic reasons but to aid them in their function as air-purifying plants.

Kentia Palm

The kentia (Howea) palm is a beautiful and easy to maintain plant. It has been a popular plant in houses of the royal and aristocratic since Victorian times. It is able to thrive in poor conditions, such as air conditioning, central heating and even low sunlight. It's also quite resistant to neglect, making it a great choice for novice gardeners.

Kentias prefer bright, indirect light and will accept a bit of shade, but it is best to keep them away from direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. They also do not like damp spots so avoid placing them near windows that are frequently open and closed.

The kentia plant requires soil mix that is high in nutrients and drains well. A mixture of perlite, peat, and potting soil can be a good soil mix. Plant your kentia palms in a pot with drainage holes and water thoroughly whenever the top centimetres of compost are dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot. It is recommended to let the soil air dry before watering.

You can trim the fronds of your kentia palm to maintain its shape, and also remove dead leaves when they appear. However, pruning house plants names to be done with care since cutting off too many fronds could damage the trunk of the plant and open it up to infection. If you decide to trim make sure you use shears with an even cutting edge and remove the leaf bases from their base rather than forcing them away as this could cause permanent scars.

A kentia can be susceptible to pests such as mealybugs, spider mites and scale insects. Regularly dusting the fronds using a sponge or cloth can help prevent these problems from happening. If they do, you can try spraying the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
